Thanks jb38 and Stephen P - I'll check the Scart next time I'm there, and then I'll suggest he contacts the DSO people (although the person that came to install his box didn't actually connect up the Scart cable properly, I had to do that myself!).

What on earth is going on with digital via Freeview from the Oxford transmitter?

After months of being normal, the last two days/two nights has seen absolutely awful reception in OX28.

BBC1 and BBC2 are now completely uwatchable. I don't even switch to those channels any more.

This is a really fantastic technological upgrade, from 'something' to 'absolutely nothing at all'.

Brenning same problem from SN3 4ST, for most of the morning yesterday we couldn't get itv and no bbc intermittently, but strangely only on two of our highest aerials, those about 20 feet lower had good reception.

We were also experiencing colour distortion with everything greener than normal

Now they appear back to normal.

Well,I live in OX28 and I'm seeing 'Very Good' reported for Freeview Chan 53, 55, 59, 60 and 62...

However, I've noticed a lot of birds beginning to roost on some of the taller aerials hereabouts....and the little beggars sometimes peck at the cables.

It happened again last night about 10pm, couldn't get any itv at all, and 31 and 30 were popping in and out. This was on 2 different aerials and I tried 3 different freeview boxes, that I know work fine.

I do wish the powers that be would be honest about this. As a commercial user with a Motel I have to be able to tell my guests something other than, I don't know.

Robert: It is possible that you were receiving out of area signals, due to the inversion effect, which were causing interference to your normal reception. If this was the problem it makes sense that the highest aerials were picking up the unwanted signals, but those mounted lower down were possibly shielded from them. Another point worth checking is whether the Oxford frequencies had been tuned in by all receivers. I say this because Mendip is also predicted to be available at your location. As the two transmitters are 180 degrees apart your aerial is likely to pick up both sets of signals. In the case of ITV1 you could have ITV1 West at position 3 in the channel list, with Meridian in the 800s. If Mendip on C54 has been stored the other channels on D3+4 from Mendip are likely to be in the LCN (normal) positions of the channel list. In the case of the SDN mux for 5* and 5USA, if C48 from Mendip was stored, the Oxford signal on C62 could have been ignored completely.

Channels on mux55 unwatchable at ox14 4ax. All ok earlier in week. No problems shown for Oxford transmitter but we normally receive good signal strength and quality for all freeview. Confused.
