The symbol shows the location of the Limavady (Northern Ireland) transmitter which serves 45,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

I have a Televes Infinity 38 element somewher between a unix and a yagi. All the other muxes come in fine, BBCA is transmitted at the same power, and it's fine, my uhf meter gives the same signal strength for the two, and Fanad has not made any changes since the 24th.
I can see the Letterkenny transmitter out of my side window, 2 miles away, but that's on ch 53, and at 90deg to the aerial, I do get good reception from it, even though it's vertical polarisation. So That's not the culprit. Must be the 256 QAM as opposed to 64, so that's what I'll blame, still doesn't really explain it though.
Aerials and marginal uhf are a black art, I always thought, give me a tricky / weak satellite reception to get any day, way simpler to install. All you need is a big enough dish.
Good job I installed Freesat+HD a few years ago, faultless reception. (54.90831,-7.67339)

Ian Drury:
I am having trouble with channel 54 (738.0) on the Limavady transmitter.
I cannot tune in ITV 3 or the rest of the associated stations.
The signal strength usually "maximizes" at about 40 to 50% of total, however, it oscillates between Zero and the aforesaid maximums about 2/3 times every second.
Needless to say this makes it impossible to store any station broadcast on channel 54 (limavady)
can anyone offer an explanation?
is this interference caused by the local transmitter in Moville?
ironically, the channel is received interference free in Derry City.
I am receiving (in Malin Head Co.Donegal) all the other channels (including RTE etc) at a very high signal strength.
any help/information will be appreciated.
Jim

Jim Neary: The oscillation suggests that it could be too high a signal level. Try turning your amplifier down.
According to RTNL, only Kippure broadcasts on C54:

Hi,
Since the switch over I can receive all the HD channels but in 1080i. My neighbour about 150 yards away can receive in 1080P (when channels are being broadcast in 1080P). I live in Ringsend not far from Limavady (10 miles) but I think (not sure) that my signal comes from Divis as we have a mountain in between us and Limavady. I have an I-Can HD set-top box running a Sharp Aquos, I have tried this box at my neighbours it gets 1080P there running through a Sony Bravia . My aerial was a Yagi type high gain. I was getting a signal strength of 65% same as my neighbour. I then tried a Philex 27887D SLx 32 Element Digital Wideband Aerial made no difference except the signal strength was slightly lower at 62%.. Both my neighbour and I use a SLx 8 way distribution box to feed the signal around the house. My question is why can I not receive 1080P? Am I using the wrong aerial? or am I missing a trick somewhere else. Many thanks for any help you can give me.

Are you sure he is actually receiving a 1080p transmission? Or has he just set the output of his receiver to 1080p. I'm not sure that anyone transmits 1080p yet.
I stand to be corrected. (54.90831,-7.67339)

Hi,
Well I think there are 1080p transmissions for these reasons.
1) I tried the same i-c an HD box in London (Crystal Place Transmitter) on a Sony Bravia, it reported 1080P. The Sony set also has its own HD tuner which reports 1080P.
2) Tried the same box at neighbours in Ringsend on different Sony Bravia it also reported 1080P. This set also has its own HD tuner and it reports 1080P.
My Sharp Aquos plays Blurays in 1080P via HDMI but the i-Can HD box can only sustain 1080i on this TV.The i-Can has a setting to change the output and when I set it to1080P it cannot sustain the picture and sound. It will come on for a few seconds reporting 1080P and then the screen will go blank for a further few seconds. If the two Sony's are falsely reporting 1080P then that solves the issue. However if the broadcast is in 1080P then I wonder why I can't get it? Is it the aerial?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

up ntil now (still got them) ive two aeriels, one receving limavady signal for BBC's itv's etc, and one pointing to derry for RTE's.
digital is goood for BBC's etc but RTE's are unreliable.
two questions . 1. can i receive RTE's from limavady without derry aeriel.
2. if not how can i make rtes more reliable.
Regards
Michael

michael: I imagine that your RT aerial pointing in the general direction of Derry is directed at Holywell Hill, Co Donegal. Ensure that your receiver is tuned to it and not another RT transmitter; bring up the signal strength screen and ensure that it is tuned to UHF channel 30.
Limavady doesn't broadcast RT. This is because it was considered that across its service area there is sufficient overspill from the Republic's transmitters.
Whereabouts are you?
If Moville and Limavady are on roughly the same bearing, then you may get away with a single aerial directed somewhere between the two.
BTW, Moville broadcasts on C45, so if that is what you are tuned to, then that's where it's coming from.

Hi all I have just retuned my mums in Coleraine, picking up all Freeview Channels from Limavady and all RTE from Moville. It is a LG32LD450 TV that comes with built in Freeview capable of transmitting MPEG4/DVB-T2 Signal. Coming of one Aerial set up to right direction by myself. Can be achieved by competent Aerial Installer. If TV doesnt have built in MPEG4 decoder buy a Freeview HD Box and Connect to receive RTE.
