OK All aerials pointing to Waltham I am in Leicester LE3 and can also pick up Sutton coalfield
Can anyone help with this. I had to change a once working matsui set top box in the kitchen on an aerial in the attic. I've now got a Goodman's gd11fvzs1 had it for 2 weeks all ok, but now when turn off to standby I loose bbc news and sky news (pos others too ) if I retune I get them back, only to loose when off to standby. So to test the unit I plugged into a different attic aerial and retuned I did notice that I did not get a east mids/west mids transmitter choice like I get from the kitchen aerial. And on that aerial all channels are still there when I turn on and off.
I then leave those tuned ones there and plug everything back into the other kitchen aerial and tv, and all channels still there even on turn on and off, so I do a retune (first time installation) and all channels are there until I turn off to standby and then l loose channels again. The kitchen aerial is a newer high gain one and the other aerial is an old rusty bent crappy one, could it be that my better aerial is too good and all to easily picks up the unwanted Sutton coalfield which somehow upsets the box even though it asks which one I want to use. Can I somehow mask off the unwanted Sutton transmitter which is almost directly opposite the Waltham its like it is coming in from the back with (tin foil or something).

Bill: When scanning for channels unplug the aerial between C38 and C47. That way you miss out the Sutton Coldfield frequencies. Make sure aerial is plugged in again at C47 for the remaining Waltham frequencies. The problem of lost channels when switching to standby is usually down to the memory capacity of the tuner being exceeded. If you have a channel delete facility removal from the channel list of non-viewable channels (pay TV) also provides a solution to this problem.

KMJ,Derby: Thank you for that info. I have left the box unplugged up till half way then plugged the aerial and that worked except I have missed off all on channel 29.
Problems-----
It is a new box so memory should be ok
I don't have any way of seeing what channel is being found next when I tune as I only get a progress bar.
I have no manual tune option to add the missed ones
And the stupid box automatically adds channels without me asking as it randomly says "new channels added" so I assume it will add the extra ones from the missed transmitter.

bill: I would guess that when scanning with the aerial plugged in it would pause when C29 was found, then when it moves on try unplugging aerial till half way again. It looks like it is down to trial and error! Odd that it gives you a choice when multiple regions are found (a feature found on more recent models) yet omits to offer a manual tuning option. It remains to be seen too whether Sutton Coldfield BBC1 and ITV are found later as "new" channels.

Thank you again
It is a new model and I have seen that others that run the same softwere do indeed offer a man tune option but not this.
I found it works the other way around --start with it unplugged and then plug back in between 1/4 and half way progress bar and this time I have caught all on C29 and everything is now still there on turn on and off.
I will have to see if it adds the extras again without me telling it. But why was it all ok for the first 2 weeks and now ive got all this. It is a new box brought last month

KMJ,Derby: I have a similar version of this box, and can personally vouch for the PITA that is the lack of manual tuning, as well as the hit and miss nature of region choice in the setup.

I'm also on Waltham, and retuning when they were having engineering work was a nightmare - Belmont kept coming up first in the scan, since its channel 22, and Waltham 49 - unplugging the aerial part through the scan is the best way, but its hit and miss.

As for why it worked before and now has problems, there having been engineering work on Waltham, so possibly thats what has lead to the change.

Bill : On the subject of losing channels in standby, just purely out of curiosity I was wondering if you are meaning that although still listed in the EPG guide selecting them from same results in a blank screen? or are you meaning that they have also disappeared from the guide?

So I turn off to stanby (red light) and turn back on (green) some channels have gone like sky news but bbc news on 80 has gone but now it is in the 800s and not issted at 80 in the epg but it is there in the 800s on the epg.The bbc news has gone/moved but bbc1 and 2 ect are all ok And I then get 9 channels ajesera this time all at the same number up in the 800s another retune and I may get 6 channels all the same up in the 800s. I feel all my problems are from the transmitter duplication east/west -- sutton stupid coalfield.Has this just had an output boost or somthing

Thank you all for your help
I have now swaped it for a polaroid box and so far so good, its manaual does not say it has region selecting, but it has. And it seems to work. Mike B your description of the goodmans being hit and miss on the region issue is a good one, I just think that the goodmans one is not very good in our situ

Bill: Changing the box for another brand model was indeed the best policy, as the symptoms described in your reply to my particular query are, as far as I am aware anyway, not a known issue with this model and neither can they be caused by an incorrect setting having been made in the set up menu, then this only leaves a defective tuner as being the most likely reason for the boxes erratic performance.
