Jade Smith: It isn't likely to come to more transmitters, but as Mendip isn't on air yet there's no point having your aerial re-orientated.
The licence for the new HD multiplex was granted subject to possible revocation no earlier than the end of 2018. Such revocation would be for the purpose of reorganising frequencies used for TV.
The issue that they've got is there's not many frequencies for these new multiplexes, which is why they have to be reused which in turn is why the transmission power is lower.
Also, the transmission power is lower than the other channels but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is too low to serve you.
If you would like to receive the new local TV channel Made in Bristol then this is available from Ilchester Crescent and Mendip.
Digital UK Coverage Checker implies that, from Mendip, the HD mux will come on air after Made in Bristol. It's much safer to have the aerial changed only when the services are on air. So if you waited until the HD mux come on air from Mendip, Made in Bristol would already be on air, and an installer could therefore tell you whether reception of Made in Bristol from Mendip was possible.

Thanks a lot for the advice Dave, if they revoke the licence for the frequencies would that mean that the channels would be withdrawn on other platforms too like freesat, virgin and sky? (51.4127,-2.6071)

Jade: Revocation of licences doesn't mean that these services (BBC Four HD, BBC News HD etc) will no longer be available on Freeview. The objective would be to replan TV frequencies so as to increase coverage, as well as, no doubt, clear some more in order to sell to mobile operators.
It's a like the situation we had before digital switchover. At switchover frequencies were changed to increase coverage. It's expected that the same thing might happen with these HD channels in the future, no sooner than five years' time.

Thanks Dave, i ask because i might invest in a freesat box to get these channels as I'm very interested in getting them. (51.4127,-2.6071)

Jade: Of course, if you have more than one TV, but only the main TV is HD then there is no benefit to have the new HD channels available in other rooms. So Freesat for the main room might be the way to go.
A satellite dish installed for Sky will work for Freesat because dishes are the same for both platforms.
Made in Bristol isn't likely to be on Freesat due to cost.

I'm in North Lansdown, Bath- looking after a block of flats. In the last month (Oct 2014) Freeview has deteriorated. I think my aerial (new) is pointing at Kings Weston relay. When I checked to coverage just now, it says I should be pointing at Ilchester Crescent. I thought it was the other way around.
Has transmitter coverage changed in the last few weeks?
Thanks

I live in Long Ashton. I have good reception for most freeview programmes most of the time.
However some programmes eg quest, travel channel, cbs reality have periods when the picture breaks up or there is no signal at all.

Tony Parsons: Aerials in your area are all seen to be pointing in the direction of the Ilchester Crescent transmitter, and although a p/code terrain check reveals your area as having a clear line of sight with the mast, a reception check using Digital UK's predictor indicates reception of the COM4/6 multiplexes that broadcasts the programmes referred to as only being variable, therefore some other factor such as bias on the mast "might" be coming into the equation, that is apart from the fact of the multiplexes in question transmitting on only 50% of the power of the main PSB muxes. (PSB-200 watts / COM-100 watts)
Have you as yet ascertained if others in your area are also suffering from similar problems with reception? although if they are not, then their aerial systems could well have the edge on yours as far as efficiency is concerned.

Yesterday morning everything was OK, but when I got home last night only these were available:
3 ITV1, 4 Channel Four, 5 Channel Five, 6 ITV2, 13 C4+1, 14 More Four, 15 Film Four, 24 ITV4, 28 E4 33 ITV!+!
Interestingly 10 ITV3 was not there either.
I have re-tuned, but to no avail.
