DenisW:
If you do need to replace your aerial, then have a log-periodic type fitted as that will be suitable for the foreseeable future. it will cover all the services currently being transmitted and those planned for the next 6 years or more. Also do not fall for the 'con' about digital aerials, all UHF aerials are capable of receiving Digital TV signals at no extra cost.
To have it fitted, select a good local contractor by asking around. Do not use one that has an 0800 number or uses a mobile contact number.

Fiona Unick-Wagg: OK, I'm assuming that you have a TV, but your not getting a TV signal (if you want a TV, then come and see me!).
You havn't given your postcode (you can put into the site when you post), so I can't say why you cannot get a signal, but Tacolneston and the surrounding area is problematic. In fact the whole of North Norfolk is a bit odd (in so many ways...), with poor reception due to various factors (my parents in law live on the coast, and we have lots of customers from the area).
The area tends to be surprising hilly, and so reception is often difficult from Tacolneston or Waltham, and since most people live on the coast, which curves, headland, etc can also block the signal. For this reason, many people tend to tune into Belmost in Yorkshire, which is often a clearer signal. Freesat/Sky is the other option, since the geography makes little difference. If we had your postcode, Google Earth etc would enable people to see where most aerials point in your area.
Also remember that you might have a problem with your own system. A corroded joint, a split or worn cable (which lets in water), and old aerial about to fall apart, or even just a duff aerial lead from the socket to the TV can all have an effect.
And of course a weak signal, caused by engineering work can plunge a marginal but working system into not getting a signal at all.
If you supply a postcode, we can help rather more, but at least you have something to start with.

During the last week, I have had problems with Channel 3 (ITV) programmes.
The problem is variable but last night I couldn't get ITV at all. I tried the automatic retuning and as a result deleted ITYV completely as there was no signal I did manage to retune ITV late at night and succeeded but the signal was not strong enough to give me a picture. The only time I have had a problem before was when there was a gale force wind. Can you help

The page this entry is being shown on also gives details of work being carried out on the Tacolnston transmitter, which includes some periods of reduced power. That is likely to affect reception, especially if your previous signal reception was close to the lower margins of 'acceptable' for your equipment. A retune in these circumstances means you have lost at least one service.
Check this site over the coming days for when the maintenance work has been completed, indicated by no newer entries for such. Then, and only then, should you try another retune.

The BBC multiplex appears to be off air, although reception of ITV is fine. This has been ongoing since yesterday am (Sat 2 August). Specifically at IP12 1LG, but problems from others in Woodbridge also.

Briantist: I'm getting really sick of losing all Freeview channels on a very frequent basis and BBC group of channels even more often.
Our aerial has been checked and is ok.
The signal can go for at least two hours and sometimes two or three days. We have replaced our equipment. We have had no signal on four separate pieces of equipment since 16.10 tonight and it is now come back on, whilst we were doing nothing to encourage it.
We repeatedly follow your re-tune advice, but it makes no difference whatsoever, other than to really irritate us.
We have to use Winter Hill, despite it's enormous distance and region from us. We have a big hill behind us and sit on magnetic Dolorite rock. Post code SY5 9AY, village Criggion. Is this neglected bit of border Wales of no importance to Freeview?
