The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I only have one aerial on my roof facing towards the Mendip transmitter.

You know a lot more about aerials than I do, I don't understand what type of aerial I should have or anything else for that matter, so thanks again for your help.

So you think from the link for the aerial you mention that it would be a good idea to get this aerial?

The only way you can be sure what Aerial is required, if infact one does need replacing is for a aerial rigger to various test procedures with his or her meter.
Far as replacment Aerial there is no one including myself that could give you a competent answer sat round a desk without getting on your roof with a aerial and meter to deside what is or would be required.
However if you dont mind a over size aerial to play safe make sure your chimney lashing mounts and mast are adequate to take the load, after all signal can be reduced in various ways , its just big Aerials look horrible and if not needed its amature and not practical.
If you want my advise I would be looking at your coaxial downlead because quite often substandard or old coaxial cable can deteriorate and often not handling the lower frequencys as well as further up the scale , although adequate signal strenth often remains it is the errors within the bits that give the problems measured as bit error rate. (BER) which should be the first thing the rigger does soon as he/she walks through your front door. Firstly before calling anyone out check the fly lead running from wall socket to TV , if its one of those molded end type thin leads replace with better quality after that without a meter your fairly knackered.
All the best
Dave

Mr Stevens

If you enter your post code into this site it will set up links to show whether your particular location in Tewkesbury can receive signals from the Mendip transmitter. However, it is a fairly long distance and it is possible that the signals will be too weak to get reliable reception.

Mr stevens: To answer such a question with any degree of certainty isn't possible due to no location being given. As Tewkesbury is in a valley then this by definition often means reception is difficult or some options are out that are otherwise available to those on higher ground.

However, a cursory glance would suggest that, in general, the town is much better served by Ridge Hill, this offering ITV West which is relayed from Mendip (as well as ITV Central). However, only BBC Midlands is carried by Ridge Hill, this being due to differences in editorial regions of the BBC regions and ITV regions.

I have just moved to BA14 8SA.
Aerial is high up on an external wall pointing at the Mendip transmitter.
I have carriedo ut factory reset of TV plus then
Automatic tuning only gave me 3 mux, manual tuning got me a fourth (BBCA). (poor signal strength)
I am missing Channel 54 PSB2 D3+4 738000Hz i.e. ITV 1 Channel 4 and Channel 5.
Do I need to install a wide channel aerial?
