Hi. The MUX that carries the channels such as Really, Sky News etc. is NOT working this evening, Weds 04th May. That is COM5 Arq A. All other muxes are fine. Our transmitter is Rowridge on the IOW and we live in Owslebury near Winchester. All has worked fine up till now. Any ideas what is going on?

Tony Dix:

It is definitely not Rowridge as all the signals from there are on channels below 40.

It may be coming from Huntshaw Cross or Mendip. Both use Channel 56 for a full multiplex. Mendip transmits at 100kW so is the more likely source. That means it it is being received via a back lobe of your aerial's receiving pattern.

I suggest you do a full manual tune of the channels listed for Rowridge at the top of this page.

Tony Dix: Re: problems with reception from the Rowridge transmitter despite having installed a new aerial. Purely out of curiosity, as reception predictors etc would suggest that you reside in a virtually no-go area for Freeview reception, the only possible source of a signal being that of variable (very!) reception of Rowridge PSB muxes, I was wondering if you have ever enjoyed reasonably trouble free reception for any length of time?, as your area is one that Freesat was aimed at.

Hi there and thanks for your replies. I have in part resolved the problem and it was down to my stupidity in forgetting that the TV is connected via a DVD recorder/player. Disconnecting this and connecting the aerial direct to the TV and carrying out a retune solved the problem and I was able to receive all the HD channels. After then connecting back to the player I was once again missing those same HD channels. The DVD recorder/player is a few years old now so am I likely to suffer the same problem if I upgraded to a new 2016? model.
I live in the BH11 area of Bournemouth/Poole.

TIMOTHY GAUNTLETT : Pleased that you have managed to find the reason for your problem. But though as far as your DVD recorder / player is concerned, if it still works OK then there is no reason to change it, as you can resolve the problem referred to by purchasing a small two-way powered splitter, this device supplying the DVD and TV with identical input levels isolated from each other.
