The symbol shows the location of the Caradon Hill (Cornwall, England) transmitter which serves 180,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Caradon Hill (Cornwall, England) mast?

D: Channels currently available on COM 8 are likely to be available on on a different FULL POWER multiplex after the next digital switchover in 2020, so you don't need to worry about losing any channels when they switch COM 8 off just before the 202o switchover! Richard in Norwich.

I live at PL253AF which is on the edge of the good signal area on the map.
It is also on the edge of this for the Redruth transmitter.
I am finding it very frustrating when the signal breaks up in the middle of a broadcast.
I can't afford sky (we are a working family paying our way) to overcome this and feel why should I struggle to pay tv license for this.
What are my options?

Denyse Shorrocks:

For anyone to suggest how to improve your reception it is essential to provide a full post code. Only with that information can we determine which transmitter your should be using and whether there are any objects in the transmission path to cause reception difficulties.

Martin everett: Dear Martin,my suggestions because i don't know the local conditions in yr area is to install
a higher gain aerial or use freesat. If you can,get a cheap aerial and search your home etc for a better signal, sometimes a better signal can be found at ground level or in unexpected places.Try tilting yr existing
aerial upwards, signal twist does often happen and when i lived in swindon was chronic in places.Lets know
the outcome.n..................

Hi,lot of areas get difficult reception because the UHF waveband used for tv is more like light than lower wavebands, and is easily blocked by the terrain. When it was allocated to tv,it was regarded as a rubbish
waveband, poor range ,high transmitter powers were required to get a reasonable service.

My postcode PL15 8BT (Launceston). Often get poor Freeview reception and frequently re-tune channels. Even when good reception for most Freeview, always have trouble with Talking Pictures (ch 81) and Al Jazeera English (ch 108). Can the signal for these channels be enhanced from Caradon transmitter? Why their weakness compared to other channels? Is that a fault at Caradon? How to enhance reception for these two (both important to me)? I already have a booster. Continually fluctuating number of channels received when I re-tune. (almost 40-channel fluctuation at times) Engineer says my antenna good and correctly placed.

Jan van Heurck: Talking Pictures and Aljazeera HD are broadcast on the COM7 multiplex which (along with COM8) is a temporary service which is broadcast at lower power to avoid causing interference with other transmitters using the same frequency. It won't receive a power boost and is due to close in 2020.

Jan van Heurck: Your just 15km from the transmitter with a clear path - why do you have a booster?

Check signal strength - although that mux is on relatively low power, you might still have a high signal strength and its worth checking the other muxes as well to make sure that you don'y have a fault with your system.

Jan van Heurk:

Further to that said by StevensOnln1 and MikeB, it is worth removing the amplifier altogether and plugging the two aerial cable connectors together using a suitable coupler. As you are only 15 km from the powerful transmitter it is likely that you have too much signal causing the tuner to be overloaded.

Please would you then tell us what the reported signal strengths are for each multiplex.
