The symbol shows the location of the Tacolneston (Norfolk, England) transmitter which serves 330,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Tacolneston (Norfolk, England) mast?

It appears that channel switching is already happening.

We can no longer receive BBC 4 HD.

A retune is necessary: you didn't warn of this, why not? Or did you?

BBC 4 HD Tacolneston is no longer being broadcast!

A retune does not work. The same message comes up: the channel has moved.

What on Earth is going on?!

Found the channel has moved to 106.

Nothing available on the internet so far as I can see.

TV interface also totally changed and no longer intuitive.

Mardler : BBC Four HD has always been on channel 106 since it launched on Freeview. Last week it moved from the COM7 multiplex to COM8 (see the link below for details). This website has no connection with either the BBC or any other broadcaster or transmitter company. We cannot give you advanced warning of a channel moving when we don't know about it ourselves until it happens in most cases and we certainly can't warn you unless you happen to visit this website after we become aware of the change.

I see the message is coming on our screen to re-tune on 7th February (well, Tacolneston area at least) The only change I can spot, is Com 8 (37) moving to 56, I wonder if this will cure our BBC4HD problems, that are currently on 37 (channel 106) ?

Mardler the great Yarmouth area can have poor reception from Tacolneston . That's why there is a relay transmitter there . You might find a stronger version of BBC4 hD from this transmitter using a vertically polarised aerial. However the snag is that relays do not transmit all the commercial channels .
I suspect that the root of the problem is that Tacolneston cannot transmit at a higher power on certain channels as that would conflict with Dutch transmitters . The situation may improve after the main retune this year.

All my recording problems on Com 7 and Com 8 returned to normal yesterday. All channels now recording fine. Several members on the website AV FORUMS "Panasonic HDD Recorder Won't Record" have also reported they can now record these channels once more.

Mike . I thought too that a wideband aerial would be the best but when I compared a log aerial to a typical standard 18 element group B I find that the B has slightly more gain at the low end of the Tacolneston frequencies and 4 to 5 dbs more gain at the new com7 , com 8 frequencies (uhf channels 55 56) 2018/20

Hardy:

You need to be thinking ahead and considering the channel changes expected between now and about 2021. Though some changes are already known, others are still uncertain. Because of that, you need an aerial that give a decent performance over a wide range of signals between channel 21 and channel 60. Many 'wide band' aerials have poor performance at one end or the other, but a good log-periodic will give fairly flat performance over that range (mind you, cheap ones don't!).

I wonder if absolute gain is an essential for you? A good aerial with good performance is the starting point and if signal strengths are genneral below 50% then a good in-line amplifier usually helps. You should be aiming to have between 60% and 75% on all channels.
