The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

AFAIK there is no way to PM or email anyone, but rather than talk in "riddles", what is your 'possible' security concern then?

David:

I would suggest wait and see if a problem persists. Depending on your location, you may get strong signals from Wenvoe and the COMs 7&8 on UHF 55 & 56 are now SFNs (single frequency networks) that could periodically cause interference. Also the current weather patterns may produce interference from other transmitters.

Another recent poster here lives where they can get signals from multiple transmitters being on high ground (I used to cycle around there as a teenager living not far away) and it can prove problematic but whether you repositioning your aerial might help, is difficult to say. You should remember though that these muxes are only temporary and are like to have gone sometime between 2020 & 2022 - by which time hopefully some of the other muxes will have become HD to accommodate the programmes.

Thanks Chris.SE

Yes, we can definitely receive signals from Wenvoe here, so think that you have identified the cause of the problem

Informed about what exactly? I've spotted some issues but not what I would call 'security' concerns.

Chris.SE: This is the situation. I was getting loads of channels on Friday morning. By 3 pm there was a problem with HD, and after that I could get no channels at all, despite doing everything you recommend, for the rest of the day. On Saturday morning I tried the retune again and it found all of the channels I had on Friday morning. Nothing has changed - my aerial is a wideband type, it has not moved, the cables are all fine, the tv is new.

I do not believe the problem is in my equipment. This is either a transmitter problem, a massive and unknown jamming problem, or the system on my equipment became non-functional for a few hours, then started working again. As I do not have the resources to check out these possibilities, I am now looking for a cable service I can rely on not to take up hours of my time every week.

Carole :

There is something very silly gong on here. Do not rush to a cable "solution", it will cost you!!
You have two aerials, yes the one on top certainly seems to be a wide band, but the one below it appears to be a "contract" aerial and is likely to be an enhanced C/D which should certainly give you good signals on most multiplexes if you were connected to it instead of the wideband.

So what sort of signal strengths and quality does your Signal Information menu give you on the UHF channels I asked about. I'm assuming you followed my suggestions for doing a manual tune after clearing any previous tuning.
Also I'm wondering if you may have too much signal - that can overload a receiver and make it appear insensitive.
When exactly did you start having problems?

Until recently I received Keep it Country (Channel 87). Now it has gone although I still get most of the stations transmitted on channel 48 (e.g. Drama, 5USA etc).
