The symbol shows the location of the Bilsdale (North Yorkshire, England) transmitter which serves 570,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Bilsdale (North Yorkshire, England) mast?

Anthony Brown:

As you have not told us what make and model the TVs are, it is very difficult to offer advice. It is unlikely to be your aerials as they are static devices and do do anything to the signals. So the retuning is entirely due to the TV sets themselves, which are automatically retuning due to the design of their software incorporated in them. Do the sets have any feature to turn off the automatic tuning function? If so, then turn it off and use the manual tuning feature to tune to the correct channels for the wanted transmitter. You can look up those details by entering you post code and house number into About us | Freeview

Anthony Brown:

According to About us | Freeview Pontop Pike is your best transmitter. As a result of the retune event that has just taken place, if you have old C/D group aerials then you could well be struggling with reception of lower powered channels on the lower end of the spectrum, as you have mentioned C33 & C34.
Also the BBCA multiplex now on C32 has it's power reduced slightly from 100kW to 90kW so if you have any problems with that one, you MAY find the multiplex still simulcasting on C58 (as has happened at some other old C/D group transmitters when the change happens) until the next retune event in November - when it's all change again!!

Bilsdale also has a retune event In November with some multiplexes moving, but all the Pontop Pike multiplexes move (PSB1/BBCA moves up to C39), others move down BUT all the main 6 muxes have power increases to 100kW. COMs 7&8 however reduce power to 19kW, though you should have no problems with reception with the CORRECT aerial - you are going to need a Group T (Wideband) aerial. BUT if you do not have Satellite or Cable TV, you can get free help for a new aerial - contact the Freeview Advice line on 0808-100-0288.
HTH.

Crazy situation following pontop pike changes - no bbc1 service, tried BBC hd as advised by Freeview but no local services in HF (why not BBC? BBC need to get their priorities right and provide a service)Low and behold BBC 1 hd now pixelated

Joan mccarthy:

Are you certain which transmitter you are/should be receiving? You refer to Pontop Pike but have posted on the Bilsdale page. There have been no changes at Bilsdale since 2017 but there will be some on 13th November.

If you provide a full postcode we can check that Pontop Pike is the transmitter you should be getting by looking at your predicted reception. The changes are nothing to do with the BBC, they are part of the What is 700MHz clearance? | Freeview (click on the link).

There was a retune event on 12th September at Pontop Pike. Have you only just started having problems or have you had them since the 12th September?

It sounds very much like your issue is due to having an old Group C/D aerial which is for reception of the higher channels that Pontop Pike has been using, but there are further changes coming on the 13th November when all the main multiplexes are moving to lower channels as part of the 700MHz clearance.
If you are currently having problems with the BBC multiplexes then you will have more problems after the next event in November as all the COM multiplexes also move to lower channels except the temporary muxes COMs 7&8 which move up to UHF55 & 56.

I cannot understand why, when you rang Freeview, that's what you were told to do BECAUSE providing you don't have Satellite or Cable TV you can get free help by contacting the Freeview Advice line on 0808-100-0288 where they should be offering to send an engineer to replace your aerial with a Group T / Wideband which is what you'll need to have satisfactory reception of all multiplexes. Give them another phone call and I would get somewhat irritated with them!

Aerial in loft at TS8 0RW and was receiving a very good signal for programmes from channels C55 & C56 until I had to retune this morning (13/11/2019) due to transmitter work. However I can't get anything from either today. Could someone throw some light on this please?

John:

As mentioned in my last post to you on Emley Moor "Don't forget that there's a good chance you'll lose COM8 from Bilsdale on the 13th when it moves to UHF56 according to the predicted reception, and COM7 moving to 55 is predicted to get flakey."

The COM7 you've got there on C32 is from Emley, the Bilsdale one was C31, now C55 not being received.

Without a full postcode we can't check what your predicted reception is likely to be.
Do you have a Wideband aerial?
