Retuned without the ariel, then replugged and did factory set up and now all channels seem sketchy at best and unwatchable at worst. The only channels behaving themselves are the ones with the lowest transmission. If I remove my signal booster then the reverse happens with the stronger channels working fine and the weaker ones breaking up. I also need the booster/splitter to get any signal in other rooms in the house.

Lawrence: Yes, unfortunately that's the kind of problem that is inevitable when the main transmitters are on such a high power compared to the lesser ones, as in many areas its difficult to strike a happy balance between reducing the main ones but without killing off the weaker channels.

About the only thing that can be done in these circumstances, which I will say are only temporary until 23rd of November, is to use a booster with a variable power, using the trial and error way of just backing off the main channels a little bit at a time and no more, hopefully by doing this not having killed the weaker ones in the process.

Nothing else can really be done except to wait until November when the situation should correct itself, at least it will do for some, as stations operating variable transmission powers will always cause problems for many people.

Thanks JB38, what happens in November which should sort out the problem? Are they putting all channels on full power? And why the delay? Does anyone know of a 4 way splitter/booster that has individual gain control to each output to account for the tv 1 foot away and others 20 and 30 metres away?

Lawrence: Well in November they should be going up from 4Kw to 100Kw after channels that would be presently affected on a distant transmitter are cleared.

You cant really get boosters that can do as you were enquiring about, and all I was really meaning was that its far easier to obtain a happy medium if the booster being used is variable.

I really don't think it worth the cost though, as any booster purchased is liable to become redundant come November.

Lawrence: Just a point of clarification, the distance your various TV's are from the booster doesn't really come in to what I am referring to, which is trying to stop a powerful signal from overloading a set whilst at the same time not reducing other stations that are already weak.

Des Collier: Sorry for not replying earlier.

I would think there are two possible reasons.

The first is a source of Single frequency interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice close to the receiver with the missing channels; or

The reception levels are just low enough to spot the different sensitivity levels where the missing multiplex is "just below" the reception threshold.

I would, as always, start by suspecting the fly leads.

Thanks for the advice les,on saturday the whole signal failed and left 2 blocks of flats without a signal, luckily the council pulled its finger out very quickly and the engineer came this morning and fitted a new distribution amplifier, apparently the old one couldn't detect all the mux's,now i have more channels than ever, happy days

Roger Scales: I presume you have tried My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice on each, but I have a feeling that both the Thompson DHD4000 and Pace "Twin Digital" are prone to not working after switchover.
