The symbol shows the location of the Craigkelly (Fife, Scotland) transmitter which serves 430,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Craigkelly (Fife, Scotland) mast?

Yesterday poor reception on many channels - did a rescan as suggested. Now some favourite channels have disappeared all together, namely 12 Dave, 19 Yesterday and 24 ITV4. All these worked fine up to 20th November.
Help, what has happened?

Maeve clark: By rescanning you deleted all channels stored, that's what's happened.

Maeve clark: As indicated above, there are engineering works being carried out on the Craigkelly transmitter. You will now have to either do a rescan or attempt manual tuning to add the missing multiplexes, something which wouldn't have been required if a reset had not been carried out.

For manual tuning to Craigkelly:

COM4 - ITV3 - C42
COM5 - Pick TV - C45
COM6 - 4Music, Yesterday - C39

(This information is given at the top of this page.).

Since the engineering works are being carried out at the Craigkelly transmitter for another week, can you tell me if all the channels that have disappeared over the last week (such as 12, 19, 24, 83 and several more) will reappear once the engineering works are completed.

Maeve clark: Unfortunately we do not have a crystal ball.

However, I see no reason why the changes that have acted to your detriment should be perminant. Perhaps the reserve antenna is being used and/or they are on reduced power. After all, you are probably on the margins for these channels.

Judging by the number of posts since April about the problems with the Craigkelly transmitter - particularly BBC1; BBC2; BBC3 etc;etc - it would be nice to see this problem put together for good. Having to pay enormous sums for licences just to find that signal quality is so variable is neither fair nor right under the sale of goods act. It's not as if the station isn't capable of producing a decent signal, it just seems that the equipment is not working properly.

Brian D Cameron: The Sale of Goods Act does not apply with respect to payment of the TV Licence and signal quality because the TV Licence simply permits the licensee to watch television and offers no guarantees as to availability of signal or warranties on aerial and receiving system.

I performed a retune on my Panasonic Freeview HDD/DVD Recorder the other day, in order to pick up the new HD channels.

When I've retuned previously, the device has offered a 'Sort by Region' option as opposed to 'Sort by signal quality'. This time, there's no option to sort by region, and the machine sorts the channels with STV first, STV+1, then others in random sequence, with STV as channel 800.

With the 'sort by region' option, BBC1 would be channel 1, BBC2 channel 2, STV channel 3, etc.

Is this something that's missing from the transmission stream, or due to a change that's been made?

I haven't made any changes at my end other than installing a better quality flylead from the wall aerial socket to the recorder
