The symbol shows the location of the Durris (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) transmitter which serves 180,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Durris (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) mast?

Robin Mutch:

Digital UK are not reporting any transmitters on reduced power at this time.

Please chack all your aerial cables and connections. Unplug anu coaxial plugs/sockets and then refit. That will clear any corrosion/oxidation from the contacts whic is a common cause of the problems you report.

Mike,

I read what you state but,

It is a little surprising that corrosion/ oxidation should happen on 3 TV,s at the same instant.

It also does not explain why I have been receiving on PSB1 this evening but not channels on RSB2.
Or that
Yesterday there were no channels on PSB1 or PSB2 showing but first thing this morning I have all channels.
I will give your suggestion a try tomorrow after I have checked all channels.

Mike,
Just to update there were no channels on COM5 either last night. This morning we now have all channels on PSB2 which we didn't have last night but now no channels on PSB1.

This must surely be a transmitterpower issue and not aerial issue in the home.

Robin Mutch:

That clearly shows that there is a problem with your aerial system. It could well be in the part that is common to the feeds to you different TV sets, i.e. before any splitter or distribution unit. That is the area yoiu need to examine closely but do be careful if you need to access any external parts.

The fact that it affects some multiplexes but not others and varies shows it is almost certainly oxidation at a connection/joint that is causing the problem. Such faults are very frequency selective and is a well known problem in the trade.

Lorna eddie:

If you look at the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Coverage Checker - Detailed View (which I've set up for your post code) you will see that Durris will give variable to poor reception compared to Rosehearty. Rumster Forest would have been worth considering but as it is so far away the reception is again variable to poor.

If you do decide to try either, you will need a wideband aerial in place of your existing Group B type.

The listing shown in my link also shows the direction the aerial should be aimed at for the three possible transmitters.

Lorna eddie: The predicted signal strength from Durris is very weak at your location for the COM4/5/6 multiplexes which are not available from Rosehearty. Rumster Forrest may be a possibility but is still likely to be poor. You would be better off looking at getting Freesat if you want more channels.
