I listen to Classic FM on my LG TV; I live in an apartment and the aerials here are up in the roof space of the building, and cannot be accessed, or tweaked, by residents, only byengineers. The reception of Classic FM frequently breaks down or disappears; I re-tune frequently, last time, 30 minutes ago. Also removed aerial and did another auto retune.. Classic Fm restored, but reception not the best. I live in Mi nehead, postcode TA245DA. I have checked and there are no current engineering works, or known problems. Do you have any suggestions for what else I can do to ensure my reception of Classic FM remains constant, and enjoyable. I have similar problems with Golden Days Radio, which I listen to on my TV, via the internet.

The Mendip transmitter isn't currently listed for Planned Engineering and I can't find any current fault reports and the BBC haven't reported any problems with their multiplexes recently.
Classic FM is carried on one of the Commercial multiplexes (ArqA/COM5) see Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which channels are carried on which multiplex.
Now, reception in your locale should normally be extremely good, however you could receive signals from Wenvoe (and only the PSB muxes from Carhampton) so check in your TV's tuning section that Quality is 100% and the Signal Strength is high for each Mendip multiplex - as follows -
Mendip's correct UHF channels are C32, C34, C35, C48, C33, C36, C55, C30. That's is the order PSBs1-3, COMs 4-7, Local mux. You probably don't get the Local Mux as you aren't in the correct area. (There's a slim chance you might get a Local mux from Wenvoe on UHF C37 but this will also be very dependent on the aerial set up in your building!).
Further advice, STOP retuning! There is no point in doing that, if there is a problem with a signal, whether it be due to Planned Engineering, weather conditions affecting signals, transmitter faults or aerial system faults then most times all it will do is clear the correct tuning. The only time you need to retune these days is if you get an on screen pop-up because a commercial channel has moved multiplex or a new one has been added (you may get an on-screen message that programme mapping has changed).
If you are not getting 100% Quality on all multiplexes virtually all the time (there's the possibility of some temporary disruption due to current weather conditions) then check with a neighbour if they are having the same issues and if so, complain to the building management that there's an issue with the system.
If you have problems with Internet radio as well it might be worth checking your TV's sound settings in case some thing else is amiss. Also check on a computer or other device, it could be your internet connection being poor.

I've been experiencing the signal dropping out when listening to BBC 6 music in the car when normally it's string enough to play when I take aerial off to go through the car wash!

MossMan: Any engineering work which involves reducing the transmitter power temporarily will potentially require other services to be reduced in power or switched off temporarily whilst the work takes place. This is often done for the safety of the engineers working on the transmitter.

Mendip is not the only transmitter in the area transmitting the BBC National mux on 12B.
I can't find any reports of other transmitters in the immediate Bristol region being affected, but I've not found the BBC Engineering list too reliable when it comes to just DAB Planned Engineering unless there an actual service interruption.

Thanks guys. Well the poor DAB signal affected most stations where I am (North Somerset) for about a week but now it's fine again. So I expect it was the transmitter after all. Can't be sure though - didn't go through the car wash to check. ;-)

Please can you explain why my TV can pick up Freeport's but neither of my set top boxes do. I have noticed a signal strength of 78 per cent, but quality is 0.

I'm sure you meant FreeSports (LCN64 in your EPG). FreeSports is carried on the COM7 (HD) mulitplex so your TV obviously has a T2/HD tuner.
See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which channels are carried on which multiplex.
You presumably don't get LCNs 70, 76, 86, 87, 91 or 96 on your set top boxes either.
I assume on your TV you'll be getting LCNs 101-107, but do you get LCNs 101-105 on either set top box? If not they probably don't have T2/HD tuners. If they do get 101-105 then where are they in relation to the TV? Are they indifferent rooms, or how are all the aerial connections done - what plugs into what etc.?
