Hi
Moved to Stroud area in 2004 to a new house which has TV points throughout. A local contractor installed an aerial pointed at Ridge Hill (because trees and a large building left no option) with a signal amplifier and all TV points work, but the analogue signal is very poor - a problem of the area!
Have converted main TV to Freesat with very good results and a new digital TV in the kitchen also receives BBC 1,2,3,4,Parl,CBBC etc but nothing else. From the detail on this site it appears that the answer lies in the MUX/aerial replacement, but which one? I do not really want to convert all points to Freesat from both the cost and aesthetics angles.

Geoff: It would probably be better to wait until after switchover before doing any work on the aerial, if this proves to be necessary. The transmission will be 10 times stronger on the PSB muxes and 5 times stronger on the COM muxes. After switchover it is best to use a Group A receiving aerial, especially in poor signal areas for Ridge Hill. At present, if it is Ridge Hill you are receiving for freeview (BBC1 Midlands)it would appear that you have a wideband aerial.

Thanks KMJ: I would confirm that the signal is from Ridge Hill, firstly because it is the only transmitter that we have ever received analogue from and it is BBC Midlands.
It seems strange however, that if we do have a wideband aerial, that the only channels that can be received, after numerous "re-tunes" are the ones mentioned - and these are exactly as the "MUX 1" details near the top of this page!

Cheltenham

I live in Cheltenham and at present seem only able to get ITV Central evening news rather than ITV West. I checked for the Ridgehill ITV HTV transmitter and that seems even after April 20 to offer a weak transmission.

How after April 20 will Cheltenham viewers be able to see ITV West?

If you live in North Gloucestershire and are fed up with seeing no local news from BBC Midlands then please complain to the BBC at gloucestershire@bbc.co.uk. For several years this area has been covered by both ITV West and BBC West but only ITV West will be transmitted from Ridge Hill after DSO in April. If enough people complain perhaps the BBC will do something!

Tony - I had the same problem about 3 weeks ago on the same multiplex; it lasted about 2 days. Looked for any Tx problems but none reported so put it down to some fairly local interference. I live in the Old Bath Road area.

Regards

Seems to be a widespread issue on MUX2 (ITV1, C4 et al), Ridge Hill transmitter, mostly daytime/early evening and then settles down. Loss of quality, not strength - 2 decoders here fail to pull anything, the third works but with intermittent pixellation.

It's not an issue on anyone's particular installation since it spreads across Worcestershire (where I am) into Gloucestershire (where the poster above is) and affects other people I know. No work is reported that I can see, but there's clearly something afoot... I presume DSO-related but simply not being mentioned?
