mrdt: Indoor (same room) aerials are seldom ever satisfactory except in cases where the viewer is located in a line-of-sight situation with the transmitter mast, and if not near to a window with the signal passing through only one wall of the house.
That said excludes loft aerials, as they can be perfectly satisfactory provided they are not installed facing into a water tank or where the signal being picked up has to pass through the separation walls of adjacent properties.
However its not possible to judge as to whether or not an indoor aerial is liable to work in your situation without your location being known, this preferably in the form of a post code or one from nearby, e.g: a shop / Post Office.

As odd as it sounds I've retuned and found a few channels coming through at 100% quality and 60% strength from the Sandy Heath transmitter and I'm in North Wales!

dusty: Not that odd really, such events can be predicted by studying the position of high pressure on a weather chart. Tropospheric ducting allows the signals to travel much further than normal by being reflected back to earth instead of continuing into space when they reach the horizon. The William Hepburn Tropospheric Ducting Forecast gives a set of charts showing the expected likelyhood of this phenomenon over forthcoming days. As a matter of interest I noticed last night that I was receiving BBC Radio 1 loud and clear on FM from Tacolneston in Norfolk on my mobile phone here in Derby.

I'm having problems with picture break up on some channels such as ITV via Sandy Heath. Been like it several days. Is it high pressure? If so will it happen everytime we get good weather? 100% signal strength and quality on many other channels such as BBC 1. Post code CB25.

I'm on Redruth.
I have lost MUX-2 only.
2 TV's on separate antenna, coax etc.
It seems to be a regular thing - always mux-2.
Who runs the transmitters and how do we get hold of them ?
I'd like to know why I lose mux2 on a regular basis.

Similar problems in Mid Devon, starting around the same. For us, BBC One & Two are OK, so are ITV2 and a few other channels. But no reception for ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5.
As I type this, they've all just returned! What about you?
