jb38: In theory it should be fine, but I know my Goodmans box always picks up Belmont before Waltham, and thanks to its lack of manual tuning, I always end up having to play the game of doing part of the scan with the aerial out.
I can really recommend Goodmans for so many reasons...!

MikeB: Quite so, as boxes (or TV's) without a manual tuning facility are quite unacceptable for use in the UK due to the sheer number of multiplex channels being used, many of picked up in adjoining areas to that served by the station that supposedly covers the area and causing no end of problems, as the aerial out until a certain percentage of the scan has taken place procedures are totally hit and miss on most devices, as many of do not have operational progress indications.
I would never recommend Goodmans to anyone, as the reliability of the device is entirely dependant on the chassis that happens to have been used in a particular model, this sometimes difficult to determine without removing the top cover and inspecting the PCB, as even the Vestel range fitted in Hitachi PVR's use three different variations of the same chassis.
As far as Belmont is concerned, yes! it does belt into certain areas, and indeed although being approximately 14 degrees out from being a reverse pick up on an aerial facing towards Sandy, it is indeed capable of being received if the signal is at a high enough level due to factors such as reflections etc.

On the AVForums there seems to be a cross section of the UK complaining about the audio on HD channels which seems to have started in the few weeks. What they are receiving is every so often they get an odd pop on the sound. Any ideas why this is happening please. I have just heard it this morning myself on Sandy Heath.

My elderly neighbour's large, modern, Samsung TV has a weird fault on Freeview: anything moving on the screen (person, car, etc) outlines in RGB 'sparkles' (like a Photoshop effect). The TV's inbuilt test picture displays perfectly, the signal strength shows as 100%. Any ideas?

Richard Wood: Its a bit of a nightmare to diagnose, but the first thing to ask is - does it happen when they are playing a video, dvd or anything else? You said the test worked fine, although really the signal strength should be nearer 80% (quality 100%). If its only Freeview, then thats points to the tuner, cable, etc. If its on everything, then that points to a system fault or something more general.
Is it a 3D TV? A couple of years ago two old ladies said that their 6 series Samsung looked odd. After a while we figured out they had pressed the 3D button by accident, and could figure out how to undo it. Since you can make 2D into 3D, the screen looked a bit odd. It should say on the screen if its done that, but...

Mike B: Thanks for that.
I think that my neighbour has a DVD player, so I'll take a DVD round and test with that sometime, not just now though...
I just saw her a few minutes ago and she said that the fault has gone, but she also said that it goes and comes back. I don't want her to think that a test which I've done has brought the fault back!
I think that her RF co-ax feeds into a splitter-booster. Could the signal be 'over-boosted'? Is that possible?
