The symbol shows the location of the Selkirk (The Scottish Borders, Scotland) transmitter which serves 24,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Selkirk (The Scottish Borders, Scotland) mast?

When I switch on my Toshiba TV a box appears on those channels broadcasting on the PSB1 multiplext asking me to perform a software upgrade. When I try this, I am told that no upgrades are available. In any case, the TV is set to be automatically upgraded. It is annoying to have to delete this dialogue box every time before watching a programme. Is there any advice available to fix this problem? I can see the transmitter from my house, and I have a loft aerial.

Malcolm: Have a look in your Toshiba's set up menu and you will most likely see an option to disable these update warnings, if you cant see it mentioned anywhere give an update on the model number of the set and it can be checked on.

Malcolm: Just to add that, that although you have got it set for automatic upgrades the circuitry used by some brands doesnt have the ability to know the message doesnt apply, this being why when software upgrades are being transmitted the message springs up.

Thanks. No sign of that option to disable on the set up menu. The set is Toshiba 26WLT66 ( 4 to 5 years old.
The problem is just on those channels grouped together on the transmitter (BBC1,2 News Channel, Alba, CBeebies etc.) It does not appear on the other groups (ITV etc). Re your second message about auto upgrades - will the message eventually go away once the upgrades are all finally transmitted.

Malcolm: As regards to the former, its basically because equipment upgrades are always broadcast on the BBC multiplex and not the commercial ones, and as far as the latter question is concerned yes! they will do dependant on the arrangements that have been made with the equipment manufacturers.

I will have a check on your model and give an update, possibly later on failing that tomorrow.

Malcolm: You may have already found it by now, but the auto-upgrade ON/OFF facility is illustrated on page 29 of the WLT66 series user manual under the "features" heading.

Since the alterations recently despite retuning we find that the freeview epg programme info for ITV channels is invariably showing "No information"
If we then tune to one of the channels the programme info then appears

Any ideas why it is not there all the time?

Rod: Confirm that your receiver is tuned to the Selkirk transmitter for ITV channels. The other transmitter that it might have tuned to at your location is Chatton, although this broadcasts ITV Tyne Tees instead.

Bring up the signal strength screen whilst on ITV1 and see whether it is tuned to UHF channel 59 which that of Selkirk or channel 42 which that of Chatton.

If it turns out that it is tuned to Chatton, then run the automatic tuning scan through with the aerial unplugged up until 55% (or until it gets past C47 if it gives channel numbers during the scan). This will have the aerial unplugged whilst it scans channels used by Chatton, but plugged in for those of Selkirk. If there is a setting in the menu something to the effect of "automatic channel update", then you may benefit from turning this off if it does a retune when unattended as a result of this being turned on. If there is no such setting, then you will have to hope that it isn't one of those devices that retunes when it feels like it, leaving the user with the incorrect channels.
