Just to say huge thanks for all your assistance on this. Being a technological idiot it really is good to be able to talk to folks who know what goes on! I did however, have a minor brain wave last night and went and bought a decent scart cable (Monster, £34 from Comet), and replaced the cheap and nasty one that had been supplied by Humax. Lo, it seems to have worked! (I'm saying this with all extremeties crossed!!) The Humax was only set up with its new Monster cable last night, and it seemed preettty good all evening, only interference was a slight stutteriness on picture, but no loss of sound, when the local gang of young mopedists roared past at 5 miles an hour. Am hoping that this is the miracle cure. Once again huge thanks for assisting a ranting, technophobic old bird! :+)

Elaine : have been following this for a few days. There is no way the problems you reported, which all sounded related to reception, could have been fixed by a new SCART lead between box and TV. But, hey!, if it's working now that great!
(£34 for a SCART though : I'd expect the PVR for that ...).

H, I live in CB9 which although is listed in the Sandy reception area the east side of the town in general looks to Sudbury. Last Christmas in anticipation of the comming digital switch over I purchased a Samsung BD-C8200 Blueray/HDD/Freveiw HD box. After the switch and necessary retunes I'm not aware of anything missing, possibly gained a couple of extra channels, but no HD. My question is. Should I be seeing some HD now?

Gary Dadds: The trade reception predictor indicates that you should be receiving a perfect signal from Sudbury on Mux Ch47, so I would try a manual scan on this channel.
If still nothing, then try the same test but on Mux Ch21, that being Sandy Heaths HD service, as although it doesnt indicate such good reception at least its still in the predictors green zone. (good!)

Im still having problems with my freeview since the DSO I cant work out why i cant receive mux A as its transmitted at a stronger power when i can receive COM ArqA with very good signal around 90% and about 80% quality and its transmitted at a lower power I cant receive COM ArqB any more however every day at around midnight for about 1 hour i can receive mux A channels which i cant workout my aerial is a 91 element which worked great before the DSO however its not mounted right on the roof its no the side of an extension about 8 metres high could this be why I am having problems however I am thinking about twisting it round to crystal palace as i cant work it out, I was also thinking that the Rouncefall transmitter may be affecting my signal as I don't need my Arial plugged in to watch all the channels broadcasting from this transmitter my post code is SS5 4LG if you need any more info just ask

Elliot (hockley): Well looking at DUK's trade predictor indicates that you should be getting a first class signal from the three main Mux channels from Sudbury, namely BBC1(Ch44) - ITV1(Ch41) HD service(Ch47)
The point is that your local transmitter at Rouncefall (1 mile away) transmits on the same channels as Sudbury, and there is a possibility that with the type of aerial you are using its overloading and desensitising your receivers input for any other lower powered stations, as only the three Mux channels mentioned are shown as being possible for reception anyway at your location, as there are no indications shown for the reception of Mux's A(Ch49)- Mux C(Ch54) - Mux D(Ch50).
It should also be noted that Mux A is only temporarily operating on Ch49 @ 14kw, and will be doing so until mid 2012.

Elliot (hockley) : You might have problems as long as Dover uses C58. The official predictions do not five you the commercial multiplexes until 27th June 2012.
You are predicted no signal at all from Crystal Palace.

Elliot (hockley: Just another small point based on what was mentioned about signal strength, you should try reducing your signal slightly rather than increasing it, as if a powerful signal is desensitizing the tuners input this would help in this type of situation, the reduction done by incorporating a simple attenuator in line with the aerial socket, these generally obtainable from TV shops. (some of anyway!)
It should still be appreciated though that you are in what could be classed as an "iffy" area for reception, the signal strengths you have indicated somewhat proving this, and in these type of areas most things tried have an element of hit and miss about them, as nothing can be guaranteed.

Elliot (hockley): Have you tried Bluebell Hill? There is a chance that you could receive MuxD and a lesser chance of MuxA, both are predicted as variable reception by the Digital UK postcode checker.
