My problem getting Belmont instead of Waltham has persisted after the 31st August switchover despite being very close to the Waltham Transmitter.
The irony is the dvd recorder connected to the TV has no difficulty in retuning automatically to East Midlands, so why is the TV being awkward? I have manually retuned the TV to 61(BBC) and 54(ITV)to get Waltham for these channels - I shall just have to hope that I don't have to retune again!

Judith: When scanning, the tuner in the TV stores the first set of channels found (ie Belmont on C22) in the "normal" positions in the channel list, then if any variations are found later in the scan these are stored in the 800s of the channel list. The dvd recorder either doesn't see the Belmont signal, or stores the strongest signal in the normal positions and displaces the weaker variants to the 800s. Belmont is only 15 degrees off beam for your Waltham aerial so it is to be expected that reception is possible from both transmitters. Unfortunately you will need to retune on 12th October 2011 when SDN at Waltham changes to 8k mode, along with a power increase.

Thank you for your reply. I suppose I shouldn't grumble as I get a perfect picture from both transmitters - it is just I do like to get local news from BBC East Midlands not Look North.

I went round and started retuning all of my various receivers today. I now receive no channels at all. I'm in Barrowby, just outside Grantham, and Waltham is less than 10 miles away.

Before the initial switchover on the 17th I could receive every single digital channel without a problem on all of my devices. I now have no TV at all on any device. No channel is clear enough to watch in any form.

The aerial (less than 3 years old) is pointing to Waltham. I've tried new scans (not updates) with 5 different devices, manual scans, and attenuators in case the signal is too strong, all without success.

Given that nothing else has changed, beyond the transmitter changes, why am I now unable to receive any TV at all?

We live in South Wigston, just south of Leicester and many aerials here are tuned into Waltham by the looks of it.

Pictures have always been good.
Since last night we DO NOT RECEIVE ANY signal at all. Even retuning repeatedly does not pick up a signal.

Any ideas on this?

Hi

We are within the proper range for the Waltham Transmitter, i.e. the East Midlands, and the transmitter has now completed its changeover to digital. Unfortunately, we are now not getting the proper local news programmes, i.e. Calendar for ITV and Belmont for BBC. We only want to receive the East Midlands News programmes. On going into Ditigal UK., they intimate that we should have Belmont, but this is totally wrong as we need to get the local East Midlands News programmes and have always been told that our local Transmitter is Waltham. Can you tell me how I can get our local news stations back?

Thank you, very frustrated, but hope somebody can explain what to do.

Thank you.

Mary Thomson

Mary Thomson: Older equipment stores the first version of the channels that it finds, rather than the best quality version, or asking which region to store. See Digital Region Overlap for ideas on how to get it to store the version you want.

3:55 PM

Mary Thomson: If you look in the 800s of the channel list you should find the East Midlands channels. Most receivers store channels in the normal places from the first transmitter that is found during the scan, in your case Belmont on C22(BBC) and C25(YTV). Any alternatives found subsequently are then placed in the 800s. To get the East Midlands in positions 1 to 3 clear the channel list by doing a factory reset, then if possible do a manual tune on C61, C54-, C29, C56, and C57. If a manual tune is not possible start the scan with the aerial unplugged, wait till C26 is reached so the first two Belmont frequencies have been missed out, then plug the aerial back in before the tuner scans C29, the first of the Waltham frequencies to be found.
