Well jb38 you've solved my problem! I am very proud of my self, not being a 'techie' at all, but I've just completed a firmware update (was quite a few versions out of date) and everything is fine again. Thank you so much.
Just one more question, just out of interest really, why does my TV always default tune to Waltham after a new channel update, but the dvd recorder to Belmont ? Doesn't really matter but has always baffled me!!

Charlie: Thanks for your update and really pleased to hear your good news, insomuch that you have successfully managed to update the firmware and which has effected a cure for your problem, as your XW380 is quite a hi-tech sophisticated device but one which would most likely attract a somewhat "embroidered" repair charge for any repair carried out should that have proved as being necessary, dependant of course on the service depot chosen.
As far as the default query is concerned, although both of your devices are Panasonic brands and as such fitted with top notch tuners, differences do exist between not only the tuners themselves but their associated circuitry and this shows up in sensitivity differences between the two devices, sensitivity referring to both the RF pick up side and also the decoding circuitry that determines whether a signal being scanned should be locked onto and stored, although in the normal run of things a channel scan starts at Ch21 and moves upwards, and so any signal on a low channel number that is received at a level sufficiently above the devices cut off threshold point will be automatically stored.
I will say though that even although a device might appear to default to a particular transmitter its not necessarily the case that all programmes stored on the EPG list are, that is excluding the BBC / ITV1 and the HD service, and the only way of finding out if they are or not is by carrying out a signal check on programmes known to use the three different commercial only multiplexes such as (10) ITV3 / (11) Pick TV / (12) Film 4, because if the mux channel number associated with the signal strength indication seen is noted then it can be cross checked against the channels used by the transmitters that cover the area.
For reference purposes, the channels used by the two stations that cover your area are /
Waltham: Ch61 (BBC) - Ch54 (ITV) - Ch58 (HD service) - Ch29 (ITV3 etc) - Ch56 (Pick TV etc) - Ch57 (Film 4 etc)
Belmont: Ch22 (BBC) - Ch25 (ITV) - Ch28 (HD service) - Ch30 (ITV3 etc) - Ch53 (Pick TV etc) - Ch60 (Film 4 etc)
By the way, although I do not envisage any further updates being made for your XW380 this is the link for the DTG website where you can view the "over air" weekly download list.

film4 is on (15), i'd guess this is just an oversight on your part mate and you used to check your signals using channel yesterday on (12) before the recent updates to the channel lists ?

Thanks for your advice, (your post dated 14/12), the model of BluRay is a Samsung 3D BDE8500M, the model of TV is a Samsung UE46ES70001J.
Swapping over aerial feeds gives following results:
TV feed:
Frequency = 794000khz
Service ID=106F
Multiplex = TSID 1046,ONID 233a
Bit Error Level = 0
Signal Strength = 100
DVD feed:
Frequency level = 738000khz
Service ID = 20c0
Multiplex = TSID 2008, ONID 233a
Bit Error Level = 0
Signal Strength = 100
Unfortunately I don't have an old set top aerial, cleared everything out once the new TV was set up and running.

Chattes: Thanks for the updated info, and with the content of indicating that all is perfectly OK as far as the feeds from the distribution amplifier is concerned, but though which now unfortunately points to the problem being with the 8500.
The fact of you stating that the 8500 gives weak or no signal indication can suggest that the tuner is actively trying to receive a signal, and so to verify (partially anyway) if the tuners aerial input socket link is OK (or not) I would like you to try a test by leaving the aerial connected into the 8500's aerial input socket but connect a coax jumper cable from its "ANT OUT" socket on the rear (next to input) into the TV's aerial input socket to make sure that the TV still works on Freeview.
In other words the TV will be receiving its signal from the aerial connection used on the 8500's tuner link, as should by any chance a bad solder connection exist on the internally located rear of this socket it will show up on the TV's picture.
However, should that prove as being OK then without changing anything that was altered for the test go over your 8500's original configuration settings that you made in the "settings" menu (page 26 of your manual) where you selected "channel" and then "channel source" to make sure that the correct aerial input has been selected for the tuner, then follow this by carrying out another auto tune and giving an update on the results, because if still nothing is received I would like you to to try a manual tune on the 8500 but on the lower powered mux Ch29 / 538.000Mhz.

Hi, have completed coax jumper test and TV still receives Freeview and picture quality is excellent.
Checked channel source and correct aerial input has been selected, carried out another auto-tune but this failed to locate any channels.
Have tried manual tuning but this too, has failed, returning a message that no channels were stored.
Looks like the tuner is cream-crackered!!

Just after christmas i lost channels 1-10 and cannot get them back despite reseting my equipment, nothing else has changed on my side. Has something changed in the le3 area?
