Hi Michael, I have 1 tv with freesat, I have never had free view but equally have never tried as I did not need it before. It's connected to an outside aerial. My concern is that I have no idea, or way to tell, if the problem is the aerial, the wiring from the aerial or the tv itself.
The tv is digital with hd so I am assuming that is not the issue but this is not my area of knowledge.
I am thinking of getting a 2nd tv with free view but don't want to end up paying £150+ for a new aerial if not necessary.
Thanks

Joe: Are you positive that the TV referred to is a 32PFL522D and not a PFL5522D ? as the first is not recognised in the Philips data base, however should it be the latter then this model is not fitted with an HD capable DVB-T2 tuner.

Hi jb38, that's definitely what it says. It's a 32inch screen so guessing its the same model. It says dvb-t on the back. Why is the dvb-2 important just for standard free view?

Thanks

Joe: Its not important to standard Freeview but is for HD reception, and with the reason being that the signal transmitted for HD quality is technically different to that of standard Freeview by basically being more complex and hence why that a normal DVB-T tuner cannot in effect "see" the signal, the "2" of the DVB-T2 spec being the thing that differentiates between the two modes.

Of course what's said is on the assumption that Michael is receiving Freeview from the Storeton PSB only station that transmits HD on Ch60, as its the only transmitter that's indicated as being possible to receive at Michaels location that transmits on Ch60.

Hi JB38, OK, thanks. I think I maybe confused things. I am not getting any Free view at all and am trying to identify the cause of the problem or at least have an educated guess before I call an engineer who could tell me whatever they like as I have no idea :-)

Thanks

Joe: are you on winter hill or storton wood with the high winds around here over the last couple of days it could be anything what you need to know it is the cheapest area in England to get a aerial fitted so bite the bullet and call someone out, ask someone you know who can recommend a good aerial man but don't use a 0800 number use someone local with a prefix you know

Joe: Regarding that said in your opening statement, only partially I would say! as I was misleading myself by only having noticed the issue concerning the TV's tuner and not having read your initial posting.

The other thing that was misleading by being coincidental, was by first part of your post code being the same as the HD channel number of your local Storeton transmitter @ 3 miles away, plus the fact of Michael either having, or using, the same post code as yourself.

However, now that I have read your initial posting I would say that Mazbars suggestion is really the only answer as far as getting the problem sorted out, as what you have said is strongly suggestive of it being caused by an aerial problem and not your equipment.

jb38: Sorry, I may have confused you by putting Joe's postcode into the predictor in the top-right to see if it would give transmitter information! (which it still hasn't, maybe one for Briantist to look at)

Joe: There's a bit of confusion here as jb38 says. To clear it up - you definitely watch using Freesat (i.e. you do not get channels such as Dave or Yesterday)? Do you have just a satellite dish, or an aerial as well? Do you have a Freesat box, or just the Philips TV on its own?

And when you say you get no digital reception, what comes up on the screen?

Michael: No problem! and thanks for clearing that up as I was a bit puzzled by both of you being the same, but though if you click on "Digital UK tradeview" seen 4th down on the list shown under the flag at the right hand side of Joe's 6.26pm posting made yesterday, if you then hover your mouse pointer over each of the stations mux channel numbers the info on that particular transmitter will appear.

Hi both. I think we are getting there now :-) just to summarise...
I have a Philips tv with built in free view (which I have never used) I have a separate freesat box connected to an old sky dish which is what I use currently. When I connect the tv to the roof aerial and try and tune it it finds no channels and gives a poor reception message. Am thinking of getting. Anew tv in another room which has an aerial socket so I may need to use free view in there. I just wanted to try and pin point if the problem is the aerial, the wiring, the tv etc as I hate being completely ignorant and open to being ripped off by whichever engineer I call out.

Thanks
