When I arrived home last night my tv said no signal. same again today. I have now set up the TV from scratch with the first time install and channel scan menu. I now find that I cant get bbc1 or bbc2 and 70% of the channes break up like there is either a poor signal or interference. There was nothing wrong with my TV before. What has gone on, is it going to be sorted, what can I do.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
If I cant get bbc 1 and 2 do I need a tv license ?

Regards
Andy

Liverpool

I have had a number of reception issues notably with my LG 'Smart' TV, but not so much with the Samsung HD Freeview box nor BT Vision box. I assume this is because of differences in the sensitivity of the equipment. This has been an issue for a few weeks and I am more than a little miffed about losing reception and having to retune in every way possible way, with factory resets, manual tuning, auto tuning using every permutation of cabling to get my TV to show anything that isn't at best pixelated or usually 'No Signal'. It is no coincidence that all these issues coincided with the Winter Hill 'engineering'. All that has been engineered is a loss of reception to facilitate a few phone users. The management of this has been appalling and the clowns responsible should be made accountable for this farce, hopefully by Ofcom! The signal strength and quality is insufficient where it was fine in the past. Although in Liverpool I can see the Winter Hill transmitter from my house and am in direct line of sight so I should be getting a clear signal and should not be an issue. Who is responsible for all this mess? As a licence payer I am not getting what I am paying for and the only reason more people are not complaining is because they are on cable or Sky and not terrestrial.

I have a Topfield PVR 5800. On 10/4/13 I lost all BBC channels ; I can view them on the tv, but not on the pvr. I can't record them on the pvr either, of course. Please help! A search doesn't detect them.

We have definitely lost signal strength in ellesmere port ch66 following the switch of the BBC MAX to Ch 50 on 10th April. I've seen the same on indoor, an amplified loft aerial and an external amplified aerial - using various freeview receivers. Strangely, some of the other MUX's are showing higher signal strengths.

This is not just of academic interest since I am now getting some break-up on BBC1 which was rock solid before. Some of the cr*p shopping channels which were unwatchable are now clear as crystal.

Has someone decided that the priority should be given to commercial channels over the Beeb ?

Dave Lindsay: Live in Ainsworth, have 3 Freeview TVs. Retuned all after April 10th,Winter Hill changes. All BBC channels ,apart from HD, now showing poor signal strength. Each TV running on independent aerials.

Not a satisfactory outcome. Would like to know if/when it is likely to be resolved?

On this webpage
DIGITALBITRATE : Le debit des chaines en numerique - TNT UK LONDRES -

it says 544x576 for 'xxXpanded TV'
but when I've watched that channel I noticed that the picture looks a bit blurred unlike other channels eg 'The Jewellery Channel' that also say 544x576 (where any small text on screen normally looks crisp and sharp) and yet both channels are on the same multiplex DVBT SDN and timesharing.
a516digital: Freeview Service Update 16/01/2013:

Is it that London have 'xxXpanded TV' at 544x576 but the Granada region has that channel at a lower resolution? (SK118AS)

Hello JB38,
Thank you for the response.
I take your point about the PVR101, and indeed I did go through 6 before getting a reliable one with an early O/S!
But my main point is that on April the tenth someone changed something on PSB2. The PVR was OK before that.
I have tried a first time installation of course, but I have not tried tuning manually. Thank you for the suggestion.

Roland Debenham has a good idea though. I can receive Mol y Parc (spelling?) here in Stretford easily, and they might not have cocked that up. If Roland is in the Blackpool area he should be able to as well.

I found this site and posts today - thought it was just me! I am in Bramhall south Manchester - had no reception issues til the 4g install last Thurs, then like others I lost all BBC channels, since then i have done several installations/retunes.Although the BBC is back reception is poor - freezing, breaking up or no signal or sound. You never know from 1 hour to the next whether you will be able to actually watch a programme, mostly it is so irritating I give up and turn off.I have also lost the radio channel for talk sport and the sky news channel which used to be 82 on freeview - now it never appears. I am so glad to know it isn't just me! Haven't heard a word about this on the local news - is it going to be sorted out?Not everyone can afford satellite or cable..As I write this have been trying to listen to radio 4 on freeview - it's breaking up every few seconds so you hear about 1 word in 4 - useless.
