Lorraine Smith: Nobody else is reporting any problems. Have you checked with any neighbours on the same communal system? If it isn't working for others in the building, report the problem to whoever is responsible for maintaining the communal system.

C Fraser :

Can't find any reports of problems at the Black Hill transmitter by Freeview or the BBC, nor is any Planned Engineering listed, assuming that's the transmitter you are receiving. You might be receiving a Relay or another Main transmitter, in which case a full postcode and which way your aerial is pointing would be needed to offer further advice if the problem is still continuing.

Check you are correctly tuned to the Black Hill UHF channels, see Black Hill (North Lanarkshire, Scotland) Full Freeview transmitter | free and easy

I have had no freeview since yesterday, it was working fine at 7am and when i got home at 5:30pm it was completely gone, this happens at times and for a few days i get nothing, when it does finally come back it is as good a signal as i could wish for, i've done all the things recommended as it's common sence but pointless.

Scott:

Without a full postcode to see what the predicted reception is in your locale it's almost impossible to say what the cause may be. As you haven't given any timescale on previous events it'll be a case of considering several possibilities.

When you say you've done all the things recommended does that include checking all you coax plugs and connections, checking the aerial looks intact and is still pointing the correct way?
Have you looked in your TV's tuning section to see what the signal strength and quality is for each UHF multiplex and compared the figures when good and bad?

If this is occurring at the same time of day for similar timescales each time then some electrical interference may be a cause. Has there been any new equipment or any changes since the problems started?

Most recently the current weather conditions have produced some Tropospheric Ducting which causes signals to travel a lot further than normal and so interference from other transmitters results.

Whether loss of signal or severe picture pixellation is due to interference, faults, engineering or weather you should never retune as this usually just clears your correct tuning and you'll need to repeat the process when signals are normal, and that may not be predictable so several attempts may be needed.

Scott:

To add to the above, Black Hill had been listed for Planned Engineering, it's possible work may have been ongoing resulting in your problem. If your set has an AUTO RETUNE function when there is No Signal, turn it off. These things are usually more trouble than they are worth.

Who posts the transmitter engineering info? That last post was almost 5 days out-of-date by the time it was posted. Or is the date a typo and we should look out for interference this coming week?

Tony Bonner: The transmitter engineering posts are automatically generated using a data feed from BBC Engineering, although it it can often lag behind.

StevensOnln1:

I think actually it's a date error. Black Hill is listed this week as you can see from the post before mine, but it wasn't last week.
I've noticed before that these "Friday" ones are where the database (DUK) has been updated for the following week but the date doesn't get changed until Monday. It's annoying and got me confused ages back until I sussed out what was going on!
