obsidian_eclipse - Purely for information purposes, in the Stamford West area (notorious for bad reception) I can receive Ch31 via an amplified log periodic aerial on three separate devices, namely a Panasonic TX32G20B TV and two PVR's, a Humax 9200T and a Hitachi 162.

I will say that when the channel changed from 23 to 31 the signal level immediately dropped from a near 10/10 S&Q to an erratic 80% strength and a downwards varying 60% in quality with this occasionally diving to zero, these findings being similar in ratio across the three devices used, one of them (the Humax) being fed from a separate amplified log albeit still being directed towards Waltham.

As a matter of interest on a portable multi-standard LCD I use for external test purposes the data received on Ch31 shows the Video PID-0513, and the Audio PID-0651.

Re: John - Correction to PID's listed, they should have been Vid-0514 and Audio-0652 for ITV1 on Ch31 MUX.

(Merrydown and accuracy does not really go hand in hand!).

Dick Rudd:The extra BBC1 channels will be from Belmont and Sandy Heath. In fact if the channels were stored on autoscan Sandy Heath could now occupy the normal channel positions with Belmont and Waltham in the 800s. See what local news is shown on each to work out which is which if you don't have frequency info to hand. There should currently be 105 standard definition channels found over the six muxes from one transmitter.

Hello John. Something weird and wonderful has happened. I tested the signal again and all the PID information for C31 is there, I have now managed to retune all my equipment including the pc tuner. Nothing has changed in the setup from earlier, the signal levels and quality remain as they were but the 'network information' is now completed - how odd.

Is it really sad to be overjoyed at getting mux 2?

Jonamat: Thanks for the info. I have been fortunate to receive C29, C31 and C33 all at 55% signal and 100% quality, but I was rather surprised to see the quality on C31 drop to very poor when repositioning the aerial a few inches in either direction. C33 was not affected in this way. I expected C29 to behave like that as it is co-channel with analogue C4 from Little Eaton where I live and either signal can be received perfectly by choosing suitable aerial positions. The nearest analogue transmitters using C31 are Crosspool (Sheffield) and Fenton but it is unlikely that either would be causing problems in Leicestershire even if they could be a factor in more northerly parts of the Waltham service area.

obsidian: I am pleased for you...but no change here. I have no Channel 31 and have noticed now that I have no Channel 29 either. Could it be that I have no "wide band" aeriel???

Tomorrow, I plan to eliminate the white box (the purpose of which I have no idea) and test the two devices I have directly to the aeriel.

This is turning me to DRINK as well!
