Tim: Thank you for your suggestions. You are certainly not teaching me to "suck eggs" !!
Where are these cables available from? Currys or a specialist tv dealer? I really don't want to spend too much money on what is relatively a minor problem as the DR works okay with the other stations. If I buy them and they have no effect, then I have wasted my money!!

Big Mart: I don't know whether this has been raised, but where HDMI leads run near to aerial leads, they can degrade the signal. The same goes for USB leads near to aerial leads.

Liz: You have not given your exact location and so this aspect cannot be checked, but you "might" be receiving an excessively high level of signal and that can cause the type of problems you mention, try a test using a set top aerial and see if that improves reception, or of you do not have access to a set top type then a short piece of wire (about 12") pushed into the inner part of the aerial socket is also a good test.

Big Mart, I made they up myself, got some satellite cable, f connector plugs and the adaptors to convert them to standard aerial plugs, I suppose the easier route would be to terminate the cables with good quality aerial plugs that would by pass the need to get f connectors and adaptors. the reason I use them is one of my hobbies is satellite reception so I always have loads of f connectors for my next rejig of my dish, you can get the bits from Maplin, B&Q, clas ohlson,

Liz: Not really, as its more inclined to indicate that your signal is excessively high and is overloading the TV's tuner and with it not doing using the wire because it doesn't pick up so much of a signal, and so you will require to purchase an attenuator to place in line with the aerial socket of your TV, these costing about £4.00 or so.
With regards to the attenuation level necessary, I would think that one of about 10db rating would suffice, although its always best to try and get a variable type as you can adjust it for the best result, variables being 0-20db.

Pat Brock: It is just possible that ITV from Sandy Heath has been tuned in when scanning, in which case the ITV channel from Crystal Palace could be present in the 800's of the channel list.

Dave Lindsay: Tim: Thank you both. I will look and see how close my HDMI cable is to the aerial, but it shouldn't be nearer than the distance that they come out of the back of DR.
What are "good quality aerial plugs"? How does one determine "good quality"? What is the difference between satellite cable and 'ordinary' coaxial cable? I think I used the ones that were on my analogue tv. Would the ones that came in the box be suitable?
Any thoughts why I got a good picture yesterday but not today. I would consider weather conditions, except it is has been bad both yesterday and today!

I live in a dip just East of Maidstone. Terrain means I cannot receive signal from Bluebell Hill and for 20 years I have had a big aerial pointed at CP with mast amp. Analogue signal was just about acceptable, although increasingly poorer in recent years with and digital reception virtually zero.
The aerial has now blown off the roof and it's time to replace. Given the history, and the recent boost in power, would anyone proffer a guess as to whether I am likely to receive digital from CP. If so what sort of aerial/booster should I be looking at. I am just outside the publish green area on the reception map
