David Parker,

I have been unable to try much of anything as I have been admitted to Pinderfields Hospital four times since Christmas and am still recovering slowly. Starting to get a little bit done now, but some of the painting is STILL on hold I'm afraid. Thanks for your interest, and my apologies to everyone for being 'off topic'.

I have a Sony RDR-HXD870 and sometimes when I set something to record on LCN 001 BBC One it decides instead to record from one of the BBC Ones in my 800s, these being those of Belmont and Bilsdale.

Last night I was hoping to watch The Apprentice from the beginning only to find, with the programme a few minutes in, that my recorder was sat "Timer Ready" with "No Signal" - it was on LCN805. It turns out that LCN805 is C50 which is Winter Hill!

I am using a DM Log fitted in the loft. Winter Hill is only a few degrees of the bearing to Emley Moor, albeit that the Pennines are obstructing line-of-sight.

Today there is 0% signal strength showing on C50 and too on C59 (PSB2 from Winter Hill). Despite this it has populated the EPG, which confirms my suspicion that it is Winter Hill because the regional news programme is North West Today.

How come the EPG has been populated? Would I be right in concluding that EPG data for BBC One and ITV for the North West region must be being carried by Yorkshire or one of the other regions I am picking up?

How might I get around this? I have already fitted an attenuator so as to fade out Bilsdale and Belmont. I suspect that Winter Hill was added a few weeks ago (prior to installation of the attenuator) because Drama from Emley Moor is on LCN809. Oh and it has also picked up C59/ITV Granada from Winter Hill.

Might setting parental control on these 800 services rule out the possibility of it automatically switching whilst still allowing me to view them if I wished?

I could wipe the thing and store only Emley Moor channels and fit the attenuator in the hope of preventing it from storing other transmitters. But if I wish to receive a different region having done so I would have to wipe and start again.

Dave Lindsay: I find that my HX995 is also very sensitive, and at least once I found the multiple 800 BBC1's (from belmont and sandy heath as well as waltham) recorded, rather than the 001 which I selected. The irony is that the tuner is also very stable, so it does not break up easily.

I'd start by 'hiding' the 800's using parental control - it at least means you can't record accidently, and things have improved. I'm thinking of using rubbish leads, just to bring down the strength a little (Scandal did break up a bit in recording), but i think that an attenator might be a good idea for you.

john: Although by rights you should be able to record the Drama channel as it does not have any restrictions on it, however I have since found out that a number of YouView boxes of the Huawei brand are unable to record Drama because of a defect within the box, and which has not as yet been rectified, YouView having been aware of this problem since the 8th when Drama first started.

The question is, do you have this brand of box?
