Charles Stuart: £150 seems to be average, and the 'rigging' part of this site might be of help.

For more info about aerials, etc (particularly if you want to do things yourself) - see A.T.V (Aerials And Television) FM DAB TV Aerial, plus poles and brackets (PE12QN)

Thanks. I think at £150 for a fitter to do it, I might see whether or not I can do it myself first. I have fitted an aerial before but in the loft.

I get my Freeview from Mendip in SN1 5LR and have received a card this morning to say I could be affected by the new 4G services. Unless I am misreading this site the 800 series has been cleared at Mendip and Seagry Court (where I could get a signal) is also clear.

Even more confusingly the 800 website doesn't mention Swindon as one of the areas they are writing to.

Have I lost the plot or have they?

Bob:
I received the same card this morning.
This is probably because some in Swindon are pointing towards Oxford that uses both Ch59+60.

So, no, you haven't lost the plot but some people in Swindon will be affected.

What is the signal strength like in Swindon from Oxford?

I used to live in Sywell Road, Coleview and had almost equal signal strengths from both Mendip and Oxford transmitters. A lot depends on where you are as the lumps and bumps can make a considerable difference. Parts of West Swindon are unlikely to get good reception because of the Old Town hill shielding but some areas further north may have better reception. In the Stratton and Blunsdon areas you may be better off as long as you are not on the side of a hill sloping away from Oxford. Note that Oxford carries South Midlands programming and Mendip carries BBC West/HTV West.

anthony tucker: Although this type of query should really be accompanied with a post code or one from nearby e.g: a shop / Post Office, however using Yeovil Post Office as a test code nothing is seen reported as far as any problems are concerned with either the Stockland Hill or Mendip's TV transmitters, although Mendip's DAB radio was off air for a short time today from 13.33 to 13.49.

You should check with a neighbour to find out if they are also experiencing similar problems to yourself, as if they were then you can eliminate your own installation as being responsible for the problem.

Please note though, that should you decide to check elsewhere then have a look up at the direction the other persons aerial is facing just in case its not the same way as yours, Stockland Hill being 246 degrees and Mendip 1 degree, based of course on the location of Yeovil Post office and not wherever you might reside.
