I used to live in Sywell Road, Coleview and had almost equal signal strengths from both Mendip and Oxford transmitters. A lot depends on where you are as the lumps and bumps can make a considerable difference. Parts of West Swindon are unlikely to get good reception because of the Old Town hill shielding but some areas further north may have better reception. In the Stratton and Blunsdon areas you may be better off as long as you are not on the side of a hill sloping away from Oxford. Note that Oxford carries South Midlands programming and Mendip carries BBC West/HTV West.

Tried manual retune for True Entertainment on channel 52 as shown, no channel. A full retune shows the West channel for this is Mux 48,

anthony tucker: Although this type of query should really be accompanied with a post code or one from nearby e.g: a shop / Post Office, however using Yeovil Post Office as a test code nothing is seen reported as far as any problems are concerned with either the Stockland Hill or Mendip's TV transmitters, although Mendip's DAB radio was off air for a short time today from 13.33 to 13.49.
You should check with a neighbour to find out if they are also experiencing similar problems to yourself, as if they were then you can eliminate your own installation as being responsible for the problem.
Please note though, that should you decide to check elsewhere then have a look up at the direction the other persons aerial is facing just in case its not the same way as yours, Stockland Hill being 246 degrees and Mendip 1 degree, based of course on the location of Yeovil Post office and not wherever you might reside.

Cardiff
WE have two roof aerials, one pointed towards Wenvoe, Cardiff (reception strength 10)the other to The Mendips (reception strength 8). Until about a week ago we have been able to view Freeview programmes from either transmitter but cannot now view, for example, BBC 1 West on Mendips (ITV 1 West is ok). If I have read the earlier advice on this site correctly BBC1 West is transmitted on BBCA Channel 49. I have reset/set up all channels two or three times on both my TV and Humax PVR and noticed that while tuning is in progress Channel 45 is followed by C54 (ie no channel 49). I apologise in advance if I have overlooked anything obvious in the guidance/instructions above but would appreciate any advice about what to do next. Many thanks

Lionel Lewis: If the feeds for these aerials combine using a diplexer then maybe it is that which means that your Wenvoe aerial is being used to pick up C49 from Mendip.
On 27th March Mendip's PSB1 (BBC One etc) multiplex moved to C49. Whilst COM4 (ITV3 etc) is now on C48 (it moved at the same time) you should be able to receive this from Wenvoe.
A diplexer "splits" at one particular channel. For Mendip and Wenvoe a split at C51 would have allowed all channels to be view - up until 27th March. This was because all of Wenvoe's channels were below C51 (and still are) and all of Mendip's were above C51.

Hi Dave.
Many thanks for the quick reply and detailed advice. Since the problem only surfaced about a week ago (according to my wife) but I can't be sure does this contradict your reference to the changes that occurred on 27 March this year?
Thanks again
Lionel

Further to my last post yesterday I have now done a manual search on Channel 49 on my Humax PVR9300T and have succeeded in locating the 'missing' Mendip channels. However, my six-year old Panasonic TX-26LMD70A has been unable to find a signal on channel 49.
I am not too concerned about this as we can use the PVR. I should have delved more thoroughly before asking for advice on this forum. I am grateful to Dave Lindsay whose advice helped to put me on the right track.

Lionel lewis: Where does your aerial go into first - the box or the TV? If the box, then try connecting it to the TV instead and then manual tuning 49, to see if that makes any difference.
