Dave Fleming:
Because of the spread of channels used for the several multiplexes broadcast at Craigkelly, from C21 to C45, you need a good wide band aerial. The best will be a log-periodic design. The size needed is determined by the distance from the transmitter and whether there are any obstructions, hills or buildings for example, that are in between that may block your sight of the transmitter. As you appear to be located in Kirkaldy, you are not very far from the transmitter so you are unlikely to need a very large aerial, a 36 element would be too strong I suspect. But check that you have clear sight of the TV transmitter mast, but don't confuse it with a telephone mast.
It would be a good idea to talk to a local TV aerial installer - but do not fall for the scam of a 'digital aerial' as all log-periodic (or yagi pattern as well) are designed for reception of Freeview signals. The critical factor is that a log-periodic will be suitable for all foreseen future transmissions and is likely to give approximately equal reception of all channels. (A wide band Yagi pattern is poorer at the low channels than at the upper channels.)
When mounting in the loft, ensure that the aerial does not try to 'look through' anywater tanks or similar metal structures. Also note that there is always some attenuation of the signal passing through solid walls, etc.
Hope that helps?

I have done the reset on both freeview televisions and both are unaffected.
Problem - for at least 2 weeks Channel 24 from Craigkelly signal quality varies greatly 40% up to 85% and signal strength dropped to about 50%, typically today strength has risen to 86% but quality fluctuates wildly from 50% to 100%, Channels 27, 30, 39, 42 and 45 all show 90-100% strength and 100% quality (no fluctuations). The site shows no problems with the transmitter but these results clearly show a problem (up until recently Channel 24 was as the others rock solid) with channel 24. Can anyone let me know what is going on?
my post code is EH6 8DG in Leith Edinburgh and Craigkelly is the recommended transmitter for my area.
I have a brand new broadest range aerial bought when the signal changed over.

Peter Robinson: As no technical problems are listed against the Craigkelly transmitter, your best policy would be to ascertain if anyone else in the area is also experiencing similar difficulties with the reception of STV channels, as although your aerial is not that terribly old, a bad (oxidised) connection has in the past, been proven as being capable of being frequency selective, i.e: only causing difficulties on one single channel.

Peter Robinson: Another test you can carry out being. If you have anything coupled into your TV via an HDMI lead, try removing it whilst you are witnessing the fluctuations in quality , as some HDMI leads are also capable of radiating a high level of frequency selective interference which can be picked up in a coax jumper lead.

Needless to say, this, as well as the latter statement in my previous reply, should only be taken into consideration if checks reveal that the problem referred to is purely confined to your installation.

Dave:

To receive any of the channels broadcast on the Channel 21 multiplex you need a TV set with an HD tuner. An 'HD Ready' set probably does not have such a DVB-T2 tuner built in.

Do you have a set or STB that has a DVB-T2 HD tuner?

Dave: Mux C21 can only be received by Freeview devices fitted with DVB-T2 (HD) tuners, as C21 is an HD multiplex, the fact of you not being able to receive it inclined to suggest that none of your TV's / boxes are capable of receiving HD signals, as if they were, then you would also be able to receive Mux C33 and Mux C34, both those also being HD multiplexes.
