Geoff: As the signal levels received from Waltham's multiplexes in your particular location is undeniably on the low side, subsequent checking reveals that signal path from said station (@ 42 degrees) would "appear" to pass over in a diagonal fashion (the worst!) the range of trees separating the back gardens of the properties between Spencefield Lane and Thurnview Road at a level equivalent to an extension of Mickleton Drive.
My thoughts on this being, that as trees can have a dastardly affect on DTT signals, I was wondering if the aerials you refer to on your particular property are at a height that actually clears said trees by a reasonable margin, by say 10 feet or or so?
Purely for information purposes, I reside in the Stamford area which is approximately 16 miles away from Waltham, checks made (various) on the signal levels received from this station being in most cases only fractionally different from the norm when measured on a Humax Freeview PVR, the fractional differences referred to being fluctuations in the quality of the signals received from COM5 (C56) and COM6 (C57), BBC (C49) being rock steady @ 82% strength / 100% quality.

I have one aerial that does need attention as I spent some time comparing the reception signal of those fitted. The signal reported in my last post was of what I would expect to be the worst aerial and it is 19% compared to another at 50% (same station). However even the 50% one is not performing as well as it used to. I have been at this location for over 20 years and the reception changed last December. The aerials have not moved from their positions. While the one I now suspect one must have some wiring issue I am not aware of any new obstructions. My location is as high as any in the area and the aerials are mounted as high as any on chimneys. For information I will post back when the rain and high wind drop so I have the courage to get back up there to check things out.

having problems in NG16 area of Notts from people losing mainly BBC but getting interuptions on Waltham ?it seems to be on "amped " systems ? Waltham isnt the best choice in the area but has been working ok since switch over? now quite a few have suddenly lost signls in the past 2 weeks with BBC seeming the most affected ? any info or others with problems?

My sister lives in NG18 and her not too new Philips digital TV appeared to have lost Ch4, Ch5 and other programmes from PSB2 whilst still receiving ITV1 at locn.3 perfectly. As it happened I had a Bush STB with me so checked out reception with that. It looks like both Belmont and Waltham can be received successfully but initially the Bush box used different PSB2's for ITV1 and Ch4 so I manually scanned the PSB2 that ITV1 registered and got Ch4 from that PSB2 as well. There is clearly no antenna/downlead problems. Re-checking the Philips reception after a further channel search I found all the 'missing' channels were on obscure locations, mostly in the 200's. My STB always put the channels where they are normally found but the Philips TV is behaving very strangely. Any ideas anyone?

Further to my post about my sister's Philips TV. Even some of PSB1's channels were out of location notably CBBC, Radios2 and 4ex but BBC1, 2 and 4 were correctly located. Very odd.

As the Belmont signals appear first during the automatic tuning process, many TVs set those as the 'default' services but when it find similar ones from a different transmitter they usually get entered into the Channel Guide on different Logical Channel Numbers (LCNs).
The way round this is to look up the actual transmission channels for the wanted multiplexes, see the top of this page for those relating to Waltham, and then manually tune those. Check your TV manual for how to perform a manual tune, it varies between sets.

Mike P: It's a pain of a TV to setup. It only refers to frequencies and not channel numbers if you try and check
the channel performance, so picking the ITV1 channel which is correctly located in '3', I scanned it and channels
were found but they weren't in their correct locations, Channel 4 did not appear at '4'. My sister is a technophobe so just told me to give up and she wouldn't let me leave the Bush STB which behaved perfectly. I'm going to see if I can talk her through the antenna disconnect, auto scan, antenna re-connect and scan again to see if that resets it to something sensible.

We used to receive East Midlands focussed news and regional programmes until recently. For the past few weeks we now receive Yorkshire and Humberside based programmes. We have not moved the aerial which is located in the loft.
Can you please offer any advice as to how we can restore the regional base to the East Midlands as before?

Ivan marriott: You must obviously reside in an area where the Belmont transmitter can be received as well as Waltham or one of its relay stations, your TV or box having stored channels from the former rather than the latter.
Try carrying out another retune "after" having first of all removed the aerial connector, this action blanking out everything stored in the tuner, reconnecting the aerial on completion followed by carrying out a second retune to load the programmes back into the tuner. A point to note being, if after having carried out the retune your TV / box offers region choice? (not all do) choose East Midlands and not Yorks & Lincs.
By the way, a post code is really required with queries of this nature, as your reception possibilities cannot be accurately assessed without same.

Ivan Marriott: To follow up JB38's excellent advice, this is an old problem. I also use Waltham, and when I used a cheap Goodmans digibox (which didn't manually tune), it would pick up Belmont first, since both transmitters are broadly in the same direction.
It sounds like your TV is doing the normal automatic rescan, but has accidently found Belmont.
You should certainly do as JB38 says, but if Belmont still comes up, then blank out the tuner again, and then leave the aerial lead unconnected for about the first 40% of the scan, and then put it back in. Hopefully it should then pick up just Waltham. It used to take me about 3 tries to catch it, so my advice is never retune if you can avoid it!
