Simon L Bradfield:

It means that you are likely to have an 'old' aerial that is not suitable for the new channel settings. You need a good quality wideband aerial so you can receive channel 55 and 56 as well as the lower ones. A group A aerial as used to be used for Rowridge is no longer suitable.

If you do not have satellite or cable, you may qualify for a free aerial replacement. Call 0808 100 0288 which is the Freeview Help Line. Tell them you have an older aerial and con no longer receive COM 7 and COM 8 from Rowridge.

Good morning all,

I'm in the Southampton area, and my transmitter is Rowridge, on the Isle of Wight. I use an indoor aerial and experience no problems receiving the full compliment of channels in my area.

Last night I lost BBC1, BBC2 and a host of other channels. It was late and I switched my television off. As I usually watch BBC News very early in the morning, I switched on this morning. The channels were still missing. I then did something rather stupid. I did a re-scan.

Result: total number of stations was 68; number of radio stations: 3.

BBC and the other missing channels completely wiped. Oh, not every BBC channel. I still have BBC1 HD.

Re-scan number 2...

Total number of channels: 28; number of radio stations: 0

In my channel list I now had London Live AND That's Solent. Maybe there'd been some work done to the main multiplexes. According to this web page, "This transmitter has no current reported problems".

Can anyone throw any light on this?

I'll do another scan this evening when I get home. Fingers crossed...

John - Hants: That sounds like you are experiencing lift conditions caused by the current hot weather, allowing signals from more distant transmitter to be received which interfere with the wanted signals from Rowridge.

Thanks Steven,

I'm hoping that's what it is. I'll re-scan again when I get home, though I'm not confident that I'll get the missing channels back today.

*note to self* scan for channels ONLY when absolutely necessary! :-D

Mich Pope:

The weather! There have been no changes at the Rowridge transmitter for several weeks now.

Put your full post code into the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Digital UK - Coverage checker That will tell you what che=annels are in use from Rowridge and give an indication of the expected reception conditions.

Bear in mind also that the current hot weather is causing a lot of reception problems and there is no cure, so please DO NOT RETUNE.

Hi - I am located in BN16, 1sj for the last few months (before heatwave) I have been unable to get bbc4 hd and BBC news hd on my bt box its ok on Freeview TV. I can see online that changes to the crystal palace transmitter has affected other users, have any changes been made to this transmitter that could have caused this issue?

Richard H:

There were changes made to the Rowridge transmitter a few months ago. You now need a wideband aerial to be able to receive all the available channels. Put your post code into the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Digital UK - Coverage checker to see what chanels are now being used.

I am no expert, but I believe that Rowridge COM8 is now Channel 56, not 37 as listed.

To check, please put your post code into the Digital UK Coverage checker and scroll down to the transmitter listing section. That will show which channels are being used for the available multiplexes.

We contributors are aware that the details given on these pages for the many transmitters is now out-of-date, but the site owner has not yet updated them for a few months now. Only he can perform the uopdate needed.
