Glen Wood:

Hi Glen, as pointed out by StevensOnln1, the COM7 multiplex which carries Freesports is a lower transmission power than the other multiplexes. Are you just interchanging the TVs in the same place or are they using different aerial outlets?

It may be worth you doing a check on all you coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads can be a common problem, try swapping them.

See what signal strengths (if any) and quality you are getting for the multiplexes shown in your TV's tuning section (try that with both sets), this might indicate potential issues with your aerial or downlead.
Also check that your downlead looks undamaged and that your aerial seems intact and pointing in the correct direction.

Problematic connections, water ingress etc. can seem to affect reception of just AN individual or several multiplexes.

Both tvs in the same place with the same connections. The Philips TV doesn't have any signal for Freesports or any channel on the same com. The channels do sometimes show on the epg guide but no picture or sound. All the other channels on both tvs receive 90 to 100% signal and quality. I use Belmont for the best reception at my location. Never had a problem before this TV (which is turning out to be by far the worst one I've had).
Thank you for all the assistance with this but I don't think it's solvable as long as I have the Philips tv unless they up the power output for the com.
regards
Glen

Glen Wood:

Just re-reading all the above information, I see one thing that hasn't been mentioned. Do you have any HDMI connections to the set? If so make sure the HDMI leads are well away from the aerial leads and flyleads especially if those aerial/flyleads are not the high quality double screened type.
HDMI can cause interference especially to C55 (for some reason). I'm not aware of any definitive research that indicates whether particular makes and models are more vulnerable than others BUT I suspect that could be the case. Be interested to know if that's the problem you have.

Well Chris I bow to your superior knowledge. I've only 1 hdmi cable from the dvd player and made sure it's as far away from the aerial lead as possible, they were tangled up with all the other wires behind there and Freesport and all the other channels are back. If they disappear again I'll take note on what was happening at the time and post again.
Many thanks for your input on this matter.
regards
Glen

Well I'm so glad it's solved. I really should have thought to mention the HDMI issue before. I've certainly made a mental note that Philips TVs are susceptible!

Sir, Are going to transmit Sony Classic any time in the near future?
I cannot tune it in to my T.V. at the moment.
If you are transmitting it already, do I need to do something to what I do?
Regards,
Brian Lark.

Brian Lark: This website does not transmit anything, it is an independent technical help site which has no connection with any broadcaster or transmitter company. Sony Classic Movies is broadcast on the local TV multiplex, which is only available in areas which have a local TV station on Freeview channel 7 or 8. There is a local TV mux broadcasting from Belmont, however it is mainly targeted towards the Humberside area.

Chris, a bit more info for you, we've been experiencing picture blocking on some channels but I have manually tuned this Philips to the com frequencies as you've given above, this has at the moment solved the problem but time will tell. If it works then I'll know that auto tuning is not sometimes the best answer. Just thought that it might help others suffering from poor reception on certain channels.

Glen Wood:

Hi Glen. Glad things seem ok at present, let's hope that continues to be the case.

Aerials will primarily receive signals from the direction in which they point but they have what are called side-lobes, generally towards the rear sides where the signals it gets will be weaker.
Hence if the primary transmitter is on reduced power or off-air so you have no signal, a retune might get tuned to another transmitter if the TV receiver has a sensitive enough tuner. Several transmitters are theoretically receivable at your location, so auto-tuning may not be the best of ideas.

The listings at the top of the page whilst mostly correct are not the clearest as the site owner has not found the time to do all the updates for many transmitters from the 700MHz Clearance program and tidy up some errors.
As it's some time and several pages back, I'll repost the list of current UHF channels.

The UHF channels for Belmont in the order BBCA/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBCB HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ArqA/COM5, ArqB/COM6, COM7; Local; are as follows -
C22, C25, C28; C30, C23, C26; C55; C32.
The Local multiplex on C32 increased power from 5kW to 10kW on the final clearance. It broadcasts That's Humber (primarily covering Hull and Grimsby areas IIRC).

(Note - Notts TV is broadcast from the Local Multiplex on C27 from the Waltham transmitter NOT Belmont.)
Also note that the auction of the 700MHz frequencies is in progress. Apparently EE are purchasing the "centre frequencies allocated for SDL usage" which is where COM7 transmits. When the auctioning is complete when EE wish to start using the frequencies (they need to develop and install equipment first) then they may give 3 months notice for the closure of COM7 which in any event will close at the end of June 2022 under the current licence.
