Martyn: When your neighbour is also suffering from the same problem then it limits the possible causes to being due either to localised interference, or the much more likely reason of it being caused by the normal and seasonally related atmospheric condition changes that takes place in the evenings, as dependant on conditions this in some instances can actually result in the signal strength rising, whereas in other cases it falls off slightly whereby its sitting at a level not high enough above the reception threshold of your TV's tuner capabilities, something which always results in glitches.

Carry out a signal strength check on a particular channel when there isn't a problem making a note of the strength / quality seen indicated, then do the same on the same when the problem re-appears and compare the differences between the two readings.

The other possible atmospheric related cause is that of the "inversion" effect, as this causes channels from distant stations (sometimes continental) to be received on the same channels as Belmont's (or any other station) and which once again results in exactly the type of problem you are experiencing, although this latter effect is more associated with a particular channel rather than overall.

Needless to say, there really isn't anything that can be done about this problem, and its something that has been causing random problems to numerous people right across large parts of the bottom half of the UK, at least I haven't seen any complaints from North of the border, as yet anyway!

will snell: I quite certain that it doesn't apply for Belmont. There is a retune due for Sandy Heath viewers on 9th May, but you're firmly outside its area!

Have a look in the 800s for another transmitter's services. Unless it was transmitted by Belmont, which would be doubtful and the fact that only one TV gives this message suggests that it may not be.

That was around mid November 2011 when Belmont area had atmospherics/inversion effect and we exchanged texts as such, which you did mention about receiving Sandy Heath transmissions temporarily with an amplified signal (mast head amplifier) on your group W wideband aerial. It was the time when Tacolneston had just started DSO1 on Wednesday 9 November 2011,and also Belmont still then had the restricted 4kw on both ArqA and ArqB multiplexes until Tacolneston completed DSO2 on Wednesday 23 November 2011 when the ArqA and ArqB muxs from Belmont increased in power 25 times to 100kw apiece.

Please can anyone update the information concerning Freeview viewing problems when a new mobile phone station opens up. It is reported a £200-£300 box will have to be purchased to continue viewing Freeview. It can hardly be called Freeview if this is going to be the case.

That is for when Ofcom sell off the top part of the current TV band for 4G. I believe that 4G operators will have to pay for filters for vulnerable people but not for the Gen Pop.

If the 4G transmitters are setup properly, I wouldn't expect much if any problems for people with a decent aerial/co-ax.

what type / make of wideband aerial is recommended for this area?
Current antenna is old and looks like a 14 element WB We get some pix-elation problems on the main channels at times.
It is roof apex mounted on 4ft pole
