Malcolm Springett: I would have a look at the Single frequency interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice page. There are no transmitter problems.

I live in Epsom. We lost freeview ITV1, ITV2, Channel4 and Channel5 on Friday 21st October 2011. Don't know why. All other channels fine.

I am the same as Malcolm Springett and have lost previously available HD channels in the last 2 weeks. Looking at the Crystal Palace coverage chart, there is a mysterious hole exactly where I live. Any ideas why anyone please?

So it seems so far nobody has Freeview HD from CP?
Brian I take the point about single frequency interference but nothing has been added in my house to generate it (am BBC Radio engineer btw) If it is single freq interference then it might be from next door but surely a brick wall would be enough to stop that?

Malcolm Springett: The BBC report that Freeview HD is operating normallly from Crystal Palace. Some people have a problem as C31 is also used for SDN on Sandy Heath, but that should not effect you.

Thanks for that Brian - I myself atempted to contact Arquiva who run the sight but had to do it via BBC duty managers who reported that they are informed by Arquiva remote managment systems that all is ok. HOwever having had dealings before with privatised parts of broadcasting sometimes the correct information is mislaid. I would still be intereste to know if anybody is actually receving Freeview HD off air from Crystal Palace on C31 as currently my box says not. Now my box could suddenly be fauly but it would seems strange if all of a sudden it picks up nothing on C31. It is more likely that the mux service id and programme id tables produced at CP are corrupted. However if anybody else is receiving things ok on C31 then it is time for me to eat humble pie and replace the box. So far on this forum all I am hearing is HD freview has been "lost". I am actually considering getting a cheap HD set top box just to test the signal anyway

Malcolm Springett: I would say that as the Crystal Palace transmitter is providing Freeview HD services to millions of homes in the London area, if the four HD channels were missing from everyone then people would notice.

Given that the headquaters of the BBC, ITV plc and Channel 4 are all within the reception area, I am sure they would notice if their HD service was off within a matter of seconds.

Also Arqiva, who run the network have extensive automatic monitoring systems that are able to detect and correct faults within microseconds.

This doesn't mean you don't have a reception issue, but it could still not be one caused by a transmitter faults.

One common cause of this kind of problem in the past, when it was not down to an in-home problem, has been faulty street lighting or security lighting.

I think Sandy Heath on C31 has a greater range and therefore effect on CP than people realise.

I have a band A aerial targetting CP and 108 degrees away from SH which is 21 miles distant behind high ground, but get a good signal which blanks CP C31 and enables me to receive C27 quite well.

Fortunately I also have an OX aerial so get HD on C57 from there.

This problem arose when DSO was completed at SH and they turned up the power. It will be resolved in April 2012 when CP completes.

Colin Wray: You might expect this, the signal levels at Crystal Palace, as a "preview" service are very low.
