My digital box seems fine on all channels execpt all BBC channels this has been going on for 2 days, even the analogue signal for the BBC is very poor.

colin: One possibility is that your TV has picked up the signal from Fenham (which would explain the poor analogue picture). This might be because it is at the low end of the TV frequency band and Pontop Pike is at the high end.
Run the auto-tune scan for channels with the aerial unplugged and plug the aerial in when it gets to 50%. That will have it unplugged when it's scanning Fenham's frequencies but connected when it's looking for Pontop.

Recently (from Oct/Nov 11) my HDD freeview recorder has occasionaly refused to record a program due to a 'weak signal'. It was an intermittant problem that has now become permanent. I can receive all channels just fine through the recorder and the TV, there doesn't seem to be a problem with veiwing TV programs, only recording them.
Ordinarily I would just have assumed the recorder had reached the end of it's working life except for the error message being about a weak signal.
My rooftop ariel was replaced between 1-2 years ago so is still fairly new. I've tried the recorder with my other rooftop ariel which supplies my PC TV tuner but get the same error message. My PC records ok with it (except for rare occasions when it says 'no signal' but a restart usually cures that).
So has there been any general reduction in signal strength which could account for this?
I need to know before I go and buy another freeview recorder. Thank you.

John Stubbs: I suspect that your problem could simply be due to a combination of your Freeview recorder not having a particularly sensitive tuner coupled to your signal being on the weak side, and so if not already using one then you could benefit from the use of an aerial amplifier to lift the signal strength, any amp being used should be about 10dB gain or so.
A reception check carried out indicated that (in theory) you are able to receive from Pontop Pike (@17mls / 249 degrees) as well as Bilsdale (@ 42mls / 168 degrees) and so your recorder might not have locked on to the best signal, therefore you should carry out a signal check whilst on a channel that's giving problems for purposes of finding out where its tuned to, this facility accessed via the tuning menu, because as well as the signal / quality indications being shown it will show the Mux channel associated with the indications.
Channels used by both are as follows,
Pontop Pike - Ch48 (BBC) - Ch55 (ITV1) - Ch59 (ITV3 etc)
Bilsdale - Ch34 (BBC) - Ch21 (ITV) - Ch31 (ITV3 etc)
Obviously more multiplex channels than these are in use, but three is sufficient for this test, and it should be pointed out that both stations involved are operating on low pre-switchover power levels, this not due to change until next September. (Ch48 BB)
