H Green:

Really we need a full post code so we can see what the expected receptions conditions are like at your location.

Please would you check that all your aerial cables are in good condition. Then unplug all the coaxial plug/sockets and refit them. Then perform a retune with the aerial unplugged and the plug it back in and do anoy=ther retune. Then check what channels you can get.

There is also some suggestion, unconfirmed, that atmospherics are have some effect on the signals from Sudbury. If that is the case then there is no cure as it is a perfect natural phenomenon.

Hi Mike.
Tried that but to no avail. My postcode is IP1.
There are certain atmospherics during the year that do affect my signal on occasion but never normally the ITV channels - only some of the freeview ones.

IP1 is not a full post code so doesn't help at all. The Digital UK Coverage checker needs the FULL post code, both parts, befiore you can get any information from it. That''s why I asked for a full post code.

Hi again.
I entered my postcode into the checker to find that there is no current abnormality from the transmitter on any of the usual channels so I conclude my current problem is atmospheric coupled with my somewhat lacking aerial set up.
Many thanks for your help in this matter.

As a foot note: now all of a sudden yesterday (even before I had done yet another retune) my ITV, Ch4 and Ch5 channels are back again all day long as opposed to only being available in the late evening - that would seem to correspond with this current time of change of some of the Freeview channel numbers.

Terry Wootten:

You should be getting perfect reception from Sudbury at your location. I'd advise first check all your aerial/cable connections - unplug coax plugs/sockets, check and reconnect. Make sure that the aerial doesn't appear to have moved in any recent wind. Then do a Reset/retune with the aerial unplugged to clear all existing tuning and then reconnect the aerial and retune again.

Tracy:

Looking at the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Coverage Checker - Detailed View for your location suggests that the signals from Sudbury are fine except for those on the SDN multiplex, which is shown to be marginal. The listing also shows that reception from Sandy Heath is possibly better giving expected good reception of six multiplexes, but not for COM7 nor COM8.

You need to have a wideband aerial fitted, there is no such thing as a'digital' aerial. If you do not have satellite or cable services, then contact Freeview Suppoert at Important changes to Freeview TV signals | Freeview You may qualify for a free replacement of your aerial.

I think MikeP may have got a little mixed up with his reception from Sandy Heath vs Sudbury. Predicted coverage from the other possible transmitter (Sandy Heath) is marginal for all muxes except COMs 7&8 for which there is no predicted coverage. COMs 7&8 are not transmitted from Sudbury though.

The predicted coverage of the 6 main muxes from Sudbury is Good, but SDN/Com4 & ArqA/COM5 the two muxes carrying the channels you mention are not as good as the others.
I would check all your coax connections again and that the aerial hasn't moved then reset/retune in the manner as mentioned in my reply to Terry Wootten immediately before your post but check you are tuned to the correct UHF channels for the Sudbury muxes ie. - 44, 41, 47, 29, 31, 37. If your reception difficulties have been since the last retune event, then it's possible you may not have an adequate/correct aerial for which help may be available as mentioned by MikeP.
