Jacky Davis:

I have to say considering your locale and distance from the transmitter I'm a bit surprised that you've still got a problem.
There's no reported faults or Planned Engineering at Mendip and the transmitter seems to be operating normally.

Have you looked at your aerial to make sure it looks intact and is still pointing in the correct direction which for you should be fractionally N of due E (compass bearing 85 degrees). Also check that your aerial downlead isn't flapping in the wind (assuming it's external).

Unfortunately the current high pressure weather system has also brought some "tropospheric ducting" where signals from distant transmitters in Europe or the UK can be received locally and cause interference to your wanted signals. This is the most likely cause of the problem, but should have now eased.

See the post before your about manual retuning especially as in your location, in normal circumstances you could receive 3 main transmitters of which Mendip is the only one which is West region.
The main message is IF your set was correctly tuned to start with, then do NOT retune if you lose signal, whether this be due to a transmitter fault, a fault on your aerial system or weather conditions.

If you need further help post back again with specific detail about the particular difficulty you are encountering.

Nick Richards:

You are not in the best of locations for COM7 reception unfortunately. It's predicted to be potentially variable but otherwise good when not subject to any interference conditions which is what is currently the problem.

Your intermittent loss is most likely due to current weather conditions. Unfortunately temperature inversion/tropospheric ducting is accompanying the high pressure weather system causing signals from distant transmitters in Europe or the UK to affect reception of wanted signals. COM7 can be more vulnerable than some multiplexes due to operating as an SFN and at lower power than most of the other multiplexes, but it is very much depends on location. Freeview and the BBC have current warning about potential intermittent disruption to reception.

Do NOT retune, when correctly tuned, all this is likely to do is clear your current tuning if no signal is found at that time.
There are no faults or Planned Engineering currently listed for Mendip.

If you want Plymouth Local News BBC/ITV then you need to tune to the Stockland Hill transmitter. As you haven't given a full postcode we can't advise on the sort of signal you may get, TA21 is a large area and reception could vary significantly across the area.
You don't say how these two aerials are used. Is it plug into one or the other or are they couple together, if the latter, how?
If they are coupled together, you'll probably need to manual tune the two UHF channels for the BBCA/PSB1 and D3&4/PSB2 multiplexes which carry the BBC and ITV channels respectively. They are C26 and C23 for Stockland Hill.

The Mendip transmitter is listed for Planned Engineering this week with "Possible Pixelation or flickering on some or all channels", so this is most likely what you've been experiencing.
You didn't say which news channel, but the other news channels aren't carried on the same multiplexes (groups of channels) so may not be affected at the same time.

UHF channels 35 & 55 are splitting into wide horizontal bars. The TV program is still there - just split into bands. Other programs other channels are OK. The aerial is in the loft and points towards Bristol. I think I'm off the Mendip transmitter. There is no booster. NP26 5WA Sudbrook (Caldicot).

Peter Robinson:

Is your receptionOK now?
I can only assume that is could have been some "passing" interference as the BBC are normally very good at reporting any problems that affect their channels and I can't find any reports affecting BBC channels on the BBCB HD / PSB3 multiplex on C35 from Mendip, or COM7 HD on C55.

I am currently having no problems either and I'm a bit further away than you. Your aerial pointing rowards Bristol is abour right, it should be compass bearing 171 degrees, that's 9 degrees E of due S at your locale.
You are predicted to to get excellent reception of all multiplexes from Mendip (and also Wenvoe!).
