The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Hi Chris, thank you...Fortunately I had read one of your previous links about not retuning

Hi Chris, thank you...Fortunately I had read one of your previous links about not retuning...
I've just ordered a variable attenuator to see if that helps dial the signal strength down a bit. However, after numerous hours of faffing, leaving it, a quick check about an hour ago reveals that all is back to normal - all channels have returned so assume a transmitter issue or consequence tropospheric ducting...
Either way, it's working - thanks for taking the time to reply.

Glad it's returned to normal. Sensible idea getting a variable attenuator, you can then check/ensure you don't have any overload issues.

Good morning,
My postcode is BA2 7ES and I've had a full blackout on both TV and Radio via Freeview for the last 24hrs (still no reception this morning).
Are there currently any engineering works or problems with the Mendip transmitter that might cause this?
I live in an apartment building with a shared antenna, amplifier and distribution system. Other occupants of the building are experiencing the same issue, therefore I initially want to rule out any issues with the Mendip transmitter.
Many thanks,
Pete

Peter Salmon: There's an engineering notice warning of work taking place at Mendip this week immediately above your post.

Hi, yes I saw that message re the engineering work, but it states that work was starting today and that there would only be some pixelation or flickering, whereas I completely lost all channels yesterday (possibly before that as I only tried at around 0900 yesterday).
But I do agree that it's more than likely related to the engineering work, as it has been intermittent this morning, currently at 1201, I have no channels at all, but when I tried at 0900, all channels were back.

Peter Salmon:
Engineering work has been going on at Mendip off and on for a few weeks. It was also listed last week.
There have been some brief interruptions to some signals and currently some of the multiplexes seem to be on reduced power or the Reserve Antenna (lower down the mast).
However, you should not have had a "full blackout" for the last 24hours.
I hope you haven't made the mistake of retuning when you had no signal because this will most likely just clear your correct tuning, you cannot tune to signals that are not there, nor should you do so if they are badly pixellated.
If you aren't retuning, and the fact that others in your building are having the same issues, it rather sounds like the installation there is not upto scratch or has a fault, as the location should have no problems with reception and the current work wouldn't be leaving you all with no signal for extended periods.
I'd suggest you all get onto the building management to get the system checked out.

Thanks for the information......No, thankfully I haven't made the mistake of re-tuning.
I think our problem maybe related to the maintenance, as it has been intermittent (fully available at times) which suggests our reception/distribution system is functioning.
If the reserve antenna lower down the mast is being utilised for some channels, then I suspect my building aerial will will lose those channels as we will more than likely be obscured.
