My TV in the bedroom has a cheapo argos set top box and an old CRT telly. That works better in wet weather than the dgital lcd telly in the living room. But the lead from the wall to the set top box is 10m long cos I am too mean to buy a shorter one! It has moulded plugs either end. Anyone have any idea how muct attenution is proviced by such a lead? I am thinking of swapping the 10m lead to the downstairs telly to see if it improves things. But I do live in a difficult area (B49)

I am having intermittent problems. Signal strength was appx 50% (while the F1 was on), now improved to appx 80%.
Aerial in loft. However post-switchover was at full strength.

Matthew S Bluck; Although your aerial is in the loft you should be aware of the fact that at only 9 miles away from a 200Kw transmitter you could still be receiving a signal on the verges of being too strong for your receiving equipments tuner, as in these type of situations the signal strength readings seen are usually totally inaccurate as the system used for measurement is upset.
A simple test that gives a good idea of the true signal strength being received in these type of situations is to try using a set top aerial, as in many instances this can indicate a signal of equal strength if not even more than from the roof or loft aerial being used.
The only occasions that this type of test doesn't work properly is if a person is located in a basement flat, or alternatively in some other horrendous notorious black spot for reception, but it should be appreciated that the symptoms of an over powerful signal are generally "exactly" the same as that of a weak one, this being something that can mislead the unwary.
I am not saying for definite that this is applying in your case, but at your distance from the transmitter there is a great possibility that it is.

Matthew S Bluck: Meant also to add, that if its found that the signal is too strong then purchasing an attenuator to place in line with the aerial socket of your receiving device will cure the problem.
Needless to say, if any booster is fitted to the aerial it should be removed.

I have read with interest comments about the signal strength from Sutton Coldfield transmitter after DSO, particularly Jack who lives about a mile from Me in B34.
I am using a 12 element contract style aerial on a 2mtr mast on the chimney which i errected in 2003. Before DSO I was getting 60dBV at the aerial with the SLX meter. After DSO I am still getting the same figure. I don't understand why I see no increase in signal strength. Can anyone explain why? My location is less than 10 miles from Sutton Coldfield transmitter.

Ever since freeview started, the subtitles for both ITV and Channel 4 have been quite different from all other channels.
Does everyone experience this same effect, where a few words appear, almost immediately disappear, then reappear with more words added, sometimes with a few original words missing from the start, or on a new line. In short, virtually unreadably jerky.
This is Sutton Coldfield transmitter, and I rather think the problem is much worse on the news channels than the pre-recorded programmes.
I ask for other opininons but I actually believe it is not something which my freeview box is 'doing wrong' - because I see it on two entirely different tuners.
Is it automatic speech recognition of a poor standard? I know BBC channels have hilariously wrong speech recognition at times, but at least it is usually readable.
Pull up your socks ITV !

Getting very poor, intermittent reception from the Malvern repeater mast which I believe is fed from Sutton Coldfield (?) at 19:45 Wed 30 Nov 2011.

I notice that the engineering events on Sutton always state that digital tv working normally but in practice I always notice a severe drop in the HD signal.
