Over the last few nights (since Saturday 7 Feb 2015) the freeview signal has been intermittent, with picture and sound failing often several times per minute and the message "no signal" displayed. Our aerial is directed to the Darvel transmitter, but our neighbour is having a similar problem form the Lochwinnoch transmitter.

Ken Johnson: Lochwinnoch receives its signal over the air from Darvel. Elsewhere there is a complaint from someone who receives from Arrochar which gets its signal from Ardentinny which gets its signal from Darvel.

Arrochar (West Dunbartonshire, Scotland) Freeview Light transmitter

Maybe this is something with the transmitter.

JIM CUNNINGHAM: If your Freeview reception is from the Darvel transmitter, then no faults have been listed against same. If though your reception is from the West Kilbride relay? and which is predicted as providing a superior level of signal to certain parts of Ardrossan, then a warning of "possible service interruptions" is listed against it, the reason for basically down to the engineering work being carried out at the Blackhill transmitter where it receives its signal from, a notice warning of "possible weak signal" currently in force against this station.

That said, any transmitter that's temporarily disabled for safety reasons is never off for any more than 30 minutes or so at the most, although reduced power can be for a whole day or more, this making me wonder if your neighbour and you are both connected into a communal aerial distribution system? as any defects in same will affect everyone connected into the system.

I have been having interruptions and plxielating pictures for about 4 months. I had an engineer out who said we are on Darvel. After a weekend away I've come home to Bbc1&2 only. I have retuned and I now only have 14 TV and 13 Radio channels . Can you help please. Postcode G132EU.

Florence Fraser : When the engineer had mentioned you are on Darvel, was he referring to the aerial? or was it the station he found your TV had been tuned to?, as practically all aerials seen in your area are facing towards Black Hill, i.e: if looking downhill at properties on the right hand side of Knightswood Road, aerials are seen to be pointing at an angle towards said properties back gardens.

Although you could try carrying out another retune on your TV to see if this corrects the problem, its doubtful if it would, as Darvel uses lower transmitter channel numbers than Blackhill, the difficulty being that Freeview devices scan from 21 upwards storing anything found, which of course would be Darvel, manual tuning of the channels used by Blackhill being the only way around this.

Anyway, try carrying out another retune and see what happens.

Further assistance dependant on outcome.

ian ferguson: Do you receive any HD channels on 101-105, as you need TV or set top box capable of receiving HD channels to view anything broadcast on COM7? Also, COM7 (and COM8) are broadcast at much lower power than other services which can make them more difficult to receive.
