Hi Dave and Carl

I haven't done anything with the aerial but rescaned the channels on the I-Can box last night and I now I can see TG4, RTE 1, RTE 2 on 51, 52 and 53 respectively on the EPG. I can also see what programmes are on using the EPG but I have no picture or sound. Any thoughts?

Sounds like your down to two options either the box is bad or its a signal issue. You could take the box to your friends and plug it in there to prove the box is working correctly that would rule that one out.

It is a case of having to rule it out.

If your aerial has been up for quite a while it may be an old Group A type which cuts off at channel 37 and the NIMM (RTE Black Mountain) is transmitted on channel 39 which is the Group K type which picks up to channel 48. But I would check the box first.

The customer who I was out with got a second I Can box which again would not even let you into the menu.

hopefully this helps.

Regards Carl

Thanks Carl, learning so much about TVs since the DSO. The box has worked in another friends house and they picked up RTE with it. If RTE is showing on 51, 52 and 53 does that mean that my aerial is the K class?

I also have another couple of friends with the I-Can box, one of them could not access the menu or EPG however when they pressed the DISP buttom and moved from 1080p to 560p they could access the menu, maybe this might work for your client.

Dave
thanks for explaining.

I have identified my problem: my recorder is a 'free sat' box not 'free view'.
(On the auto scan it did not pick up RTE.
However when I scanned for ' other dishes' , I think, it did show RTE as a 'pay for' channel and that it was encrypted.)

I need to purchase a recorder which has a free view tuner to get over the problem.

Thanks for the box info I will remember that one.

Hard to say, if it was put up a couple of years ago I would expect it to be Gp K (ch21 - 48)or a wideband (ch21 - 69) type which would be fine.

If its very old then it could be a Gp A (ch21 - 37)which is struggling to pull channel 39 in.

Think you will need someone out on this one.

Can't think of anything else.

Regards Carl

The RTE you picked up is the Sky transmittion which requires a card.

Dont forget the box needs to be Freeview HD not just Freeview.

Recording boxes are easy to get at the mitute, non recording seem to be selling out quickly.

May I ask. Why I receiving these Muxes on wrong frequencies.
Mux D3+4 is on C42(642.0MHz) and isn't on C21(474.2MHz).
And Mux BBCA is on C45(666.0MHz) and isn't on C27(522.0MHz).

Peter: Because you're receiving them from Black Mountain and not Divis!

Black Mountain is a Public Service relay which means that it doesn't transmit the Commercial (COM) channels which are SDN, ArqA and ArqB.

Divis is on a bearing 280 degrees and your aerial will be horizontal. Black Mountain is at 232 degrees and your aerial will be vertical.

Hi i have a Samsung PS50A457P1 with built in Free-view, it picks up UK tv but says 'HD not supported' for all the Irish stations. I also have a Sony Bravia and it shows them no problems, any ideas?
