anthony: Yes, intermittent faults are always difficult to cure, but judging by what Gareth and others have reported, including of course yourself, the content of being highly suggestive of intermittent carrier failure, and as such I feel that its only a matter of time before field checks are carried out in various localities around the circumference of the coverage area in order to determine one way or another if the problem is being caused by a defect on the mast, (nasty!!) as its rather obvious that nothing abnormal is showing up on the TX indicator meters otherwise the problem would have been rectified by now.

One thing I forgot to ask being, on average how many times in an evenings viewing is this drop out problem liable to be experienced?

Frequency of fault varies and I haven't watched com 7 much recently, maybe once an hour but you can go a long time with no problems. I always record Film review from BBC News HD at 17.45 on a Friday, last week there was a bit of pixilation but not before or since.

I should have said the fault on Film Review was two weeks ago.

I've changed my monika from "Mike" to "Mike42" to avoid confusion with the others. I was one of the early complainers about this problem, which is still very apparent here on the Fylde coast. I record quite a few programmes on BBC4HD and it is now quite rare to have a clear recording. Almost every file has a "failed recording due to signal loss" flag, although the Humax does actually complete the recording with the glitches included. The second episode about Quantum Mechanics had four glitches in the hour which was very irritating.
As others have stated, observing the signal meters during a glitch shows a complete switch-off of signal and quality, followed by complete recovery and perfectly good signal/quality for several minutes: the timing appears to be random .

I get dropouts on quite a few channels(no signal) several times during the evening on freeview, but also have pixelating problems with my virgin TiVo feed, especially on bbc4 broadcasts. I purchased a signal booster box with a 4g filter, but this doesn't seemed to have helped. Any suggestions? I live in the Wirral area ch45

Problems on Virgin are I assume due to a fault on their network and should be reported to them. Ch 45 is the BBC SD service from Moel-y-Parc.

Ch55 ARQ-B seems to be off-air. All other (receiveable) channels are fine as far as I can tell. There are no faults listed against Winter Hill though, so it's either a slow day or no-one's wanting to watch Yesterday or 4seven today.

External wall mounted aerial in direct line of site of transmitter - only a large hawthorn tree is the possible 'obstruction.' Full reset procedure followed etc.

I noticed today 29/12/2014 that the Pick and Dave channels flagged NO SERVICE. So I did a retune to refresh. When the refresh was complete. All the BBC channels were missing and the majority of the other channels were a poor signal 1-4 quality. The areial I use is good. Is there a problem with the Winter Hill transmitter?

@Will

On Sunday evening (28 Dec) I had trouble with several of the multiplexes (e.g. the one carrying Yesterday and Aljazeera English (SD); and the one carrying HD BBC1 BBC2 ITV1 etc) and COM7.

As best I can determine, several multiplexes are on reduced power. This causes my (reasonably new Panasonic) TV to give "No Service"; but the PVR (also Panasonic and the same recent age) delivers everything. My old Sony (not HD) is also coping with the reduced power.

I'm resisting the temptation to rescan the Pana TV for fear of losing everything.

Anybody would think Winter Hill was a local relay serving a couple of villages and some cow sheds, it's so unreliable.
