The symbol shows the location of the Divis (Northern Ireland) transmitter which serves 440,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Divis (Northern Ireland) mast?

Why has Freeview made this area non existent during switchover 2000
When signal was good and high!
We in this area have suffered with terrible coveragifor two Decades and mostly costly interference from freeviefrom yourselves and still had pay televisions licences,
BBC had strongest signals and frequency all along until now and why.
Would appreciate if Freeview would restore strongest signals
They had stolen for streaming companies.

hsrrysmyth:

Sorry, your assumptions are incorrect.
The Divis transmitter isn't currently listed for Planned Engineering, but the lists aren't always 100%.
There are no current faults listed by the BBC that I can find either.
There has been some "Tropospheric Ducting" with the current weather conditions which may have affected reception recently, and predicted that it may do so again at the weekend in your area.

Have you checked that your aerial is still intact and pointing the correct way?
How old is your aerial roughly? Is the downlead undamaged and not flapping in the wind?
Have you checked the coax connections behind your TV?
Do you have any amp/splitter, if so is it still powered and functioning correctly?

The transmitter power since DSO is 50kW and comparable with many other UK main transmitters when comparing Digital to Analogue, many of which have improved coverage.

If you provide a full postcode we can check your predicted reception.

Many RTE programmes from Divis are blocked because of Copyright and Licensing. Rugby is one example.
Some areas in N.I. can get RTE direct from Clermont Carn near Omeath and Honeywell Hill in Donegal.
Clermont is powerful 140kW and reaches West Belfast but for large swathes of the country signal are blocked by the Mourne Mountains.
Best way to find out if you can get RTE direct is to look around your neighbourhood for vertical polarised aerials pointing towards the transmitter.

Hi,

BT19 7XS, aerial on roof

I've been having issues with the ARQ-A channels for the past week or so. Tried various troubleshooting steps but they're still pixelated and unwatchable. Up until then the channels worked perfectly with no issues. They are still working on a TV in the next room. No issues with any other channels (although BBCA has started being spotty this evening). A

I see there was planned engineering on Divis starting 27/11, could this be the cause? Is there an estimated end date? Not sure what else to try save getting someone out to look at the aerial.

Gemma:

Hi Gemma. It could be the Planned Engineering especially if ArqA is on reduced power or the Reserve Antenna, BUT, you mention the last few weeks when the transmitter wasn't listed in the middle 2 weeks of November. However that doesn't necessarily mean that work wasn't going on, we know the lists can sometimes be inaccurate. Unfortunately Arqiva never specify how long the work will take or what it entails!

You mention that the channels are ok on the TV in the next room, which suggests the signal may be a bit marginal and maybe it's a longer cable run for the affected TV?
Does the splitter you use to feed the two TVs have an amp, or is it just passive?

I'd check that your aerial is still pointing OK, it should be compass bearing 263 degrees, that's 6 degrees S of due W, with its rods (or squashed Xs) horizontal. Check the downlead isn't flapping in the wind. How old is the installation?
Check all your accessible coax connections for corrosion or water.

You should have had a postcode from RestoreTV about possible interference from mobile signals.
Put your postcard in here https://restoretv.uk/post…ure/ to check.
if you haven't got a free Filter, contact them to get one. It should be fiited before the amp/splitter.
If you happen to have a masthead amp tell RestoreTV as they'd need to send an engineer (free) to intall an external filter & possibly change the aerial.

Transmitter engineering: how long will the engineering work take on Divis transmitter? Our tv reception has beeb pixilated for weeks now.

Marian Magee : Nobody from Arqiva (the company that operate the transmitters) posts on here, it's just an automated feed provided by BBC Engineering. They never say how long the work is planned to last for as it depends on various factors such as the weather (the engineers can't work on the mast structure during heavy rain or high winds). The only publicly available information is a list which transmitters are being worked on each week, as this is an independent technical help website, nobody here is likely to have any further information.
