Peter Yallop : Mustard uses a the leaf-shaped radiation pattern which faces Norwich, as shown above. You're really on the edge of it so you might need to add some amplification and/or raise the height in order to get it (I note you may be in a bungalow and trees in the way).

Try a manual scan of UHF channel 57. Select/enter 57 but don't press the button to scan/add services straight away. Instead, wait and see if you get a reading for strength and quality and see if it varies or is steady.

Swaffham

I live in Necton, Swaffham, PE37 8NP and have recently taken deliver of a new YouView box from Talk Talk. I have been through the guided set up and also tried the instructions on this website. I have also been into a local TV/Aerial provider for some advice.

After an Auto Scan the box picks up 136 channels including radio, however when I look through the tv guide there seems to be quite a few different channels missing. I have checked within the settings that the box is not hiding any channels and all appears to be fine there. The guy at the TV shop I visited suggested a manual retune as the box may not be collecting a signal from the correct transmitter. I am missing the likes of film 4, more 4 and E4 and ITV to name a few so it looks like what the guy is suggesting is correct, a complete multiplex.

There is no manual retune option on a YouView box that I can find after trolling the internet so assume that I can not exhaust this option unless anyone knows of a way of doing this. The only other thing that I think that it could be would be the aerial not picking up a wide enough band, however this seems a little over the top as the reason from switching from sky was to reduce the cost!!

Can anyone help or provide me with some ideas?

Thank you

David Allen: The tuned UHF channel number is usually given on the signal strength screen. For BBC One it should be 55 for Tacolneston but perhaps it is 22 from Belmont or 27 from Sandy Heath. If so, having the aerial unplugged for the portion of the scan where the unwanted channels are may be a workaround.

Is there a preference for or choice of region/network as this is different for each transmitter region. For example, Belmont is something like "E Yks&Lincs". Maybe you need to set a preference for whatever Tacolneston is.

David Allen: Does your TV have Freeview built in? If so, then can you get ITV on UHF channel 59, rather than 25 or 24 which are Belmont and Sandy Heath respectively.

Bury St. Edmunds

I have just installed a Humax HD recorder and tuned it in on automatic scan
I am getting all the available channels perfectly except BBC1 HD which keeps breaking up and disappearing intermittently
Last night for a short time there was a screen display which said BBC1 HD was not available but it has now gone
Is there any problem with this channel on the transmitter - BBC1 on SD is working perfectly and all the other HD channels work perfectly too
I am on the north side of Bury St Edmunds and my aeriel points at the Tacolneston transmitter

Dave Lindsay: Thank you for your response and ideas. The YouView box does not give any idea other than percentage complete, therefore one would assume that it would be very difficult to know when to unplug the aerial.

Having said this I have managed to fix the issue myself. I have never used the aerial since moving into the property and therefore never taken any notice or interest. On closer inspection I noticed that it has a mast head amp. In their wisdom the previous owner took the power pack with them assuming that it was an amplifier!??

So firstly I purchased a power pack which boosted the signal strength form around 36% to 63% on most channels and retuned. This picked up an additional 5 channels, however the box was still not showing all channels in the TV guide.

I then factory reset the box and when prompted entered the postcode for the Tacolneston transmitter. Opened the TV guide and he presto all freeview channels now showing and available.

Once again Dave thank you for your ideas.

ken Illsey: The Humax has two rather sensitive tuners, and it does'nt always allow a manual scan.

So check your transmitter, because your just 1km from Bury St Edmunds light transmitter, and the bearing isn't vastly different to Talcneston. You might have the wrong transmitter.

Then check signal strength. HD tends to get hit by too high a signal first, so check it and look here: Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you

Is Mustard available? Don't seem to get it in Southwold but I would think it would be on Talceseston.
